Misty rings

Among travellers on the road, there are many tales told around the campfires at night and in the taverns. One of the more scary stories they all know also serves as a warning to new travellers; the story of misty rings in the sky serves as one of the more serious warnings among the travellers.    Its known within the community that if one are traveling through an area and the mist begins to form into rings, one have to seek shelter as fast as possible, this is best done with stopping ones waggon, light a fire and then hunker down under blankets and other forms for covers, its important not to show any amount of ones body for the duration that the misty rings are around which is luckily not that long, typically they will disappear after around half an hour to an hour, ones they have disappeared its safe to come out of hiding but its still generally ill-adviced to resume ones travel and instead its adviced to hold for the day.  

What are the misty rings?

It's believed that the misty rings are the fae out looking for mortals they can play with, but as with so many of the more mystical and magical things, what the fae call playing typically ends up being deadly for the mortals. It's not known why they form the rings, but among the travellers, it's said that the rings are the playgrounds of the fae, and anyone caught inside one will be caught in whatever game the fae are playing. Likewise, it's not fully understood why it helps make a fire and hiding under blankets and the like, but it seems to work so the travellers keep doing it. Some do believe that since the fae show up to play they mistake the fire and the covered mortals for sleeping so they in some way understand that they are not interested in playing.
