Marcellus Outpost

In the far reaches of the Empire of Dercia bordering on the unclaimed lands, one can find the Marcellus Outpost.    It's a small outpost, housing a small cohort of auxiliary troops; there is likewise a small detachment of a mounted troops. The outpost itself consists of a walled camp big enough to house both the troops and the horses, its mainly build out of wood from the local forest but the walls which are nearly four meters high have the first two meters made out of stone, the camp is located next to a small river that provides fresh drinking water for men and horses but also a decent amount of fish to supplement the rations of the soldiers.   For many soldiers stationed here, it would be a easy posting if not a bit boring, with the remote location of the outpost had it not been for the mysterious creatures that haunt the local forest. The locals dont go near the forest after dark, and even during the day, they tend to travel in groups of at least three. Locals have described the mysterious creatures as bear-like, but without hair, and with red, glowing eyes.     The locals believe that the mysterious creatures are there to protect the forest from outsiders, that there is something or someone in the depths of the forest that controls them and wants to keep others out, they tell people that those who venture too far into the forest are never seen again, but those that venture far into the forest but not to deep tell that as the sun set, a humming can be heard from all over with no direct origin and at the same time a red glow seems to eminate from further into the forest, they believe that its this red glow that draws people further into the forest when they shound be running away.
