Haitris eagle

The Haitris eagle is a giant eagle found all over Mirateia and is considered the largest in the world.   As a result of its giant size, the Haitris eagle has been the object of many legends and acted as the foundation for many monster myths and while many of these stories have some truth to them, many of the scholars that specialize in animals have said that many of the actions that some of the monsters make would be uncharacteristic for the Haitris eagle. Hence, they believe that the peasants use the size of the eagle to hide their actions.   Due to its size, many militaries have used the eagle as a symbol of power throughout history. Mostly it has been in the shape of standards for armies or been used on banners. Parts of the eagle have also been seen as symbols of the power its believed to have, so there are plenty of tales of armies or even kings and queens having a skull of the eagle displayed as an artefact. There are even histories of a small kingdom that used the skull of one of the Haitris eagles to symbolise the king's power.

Basic Information

Behaviour

The Haitris eagle prey on large animals, mostly wild animals, but it's known to take farm animals occasionally. Scholars have observed that when it has caught a kill, it will go into the body cavity and feed on the organs before going for the exterior. If lucky, the eagle can monopolise the kill for a few days.

Additional Information

Domestication

As far as scholars know, there is only one example of an Haitris eagle domesticating itself. It's said that the 6th Legion gained their eagle shortly after the formation of the legion when one of the eagles took a liking to the legion and began following them and over time it began to trust the people and would walk through the camp, stealing pieces of meat from the kitchens, the soldiers would tolerate this because the eagle in return would keep pests and rodents away as well as smaller predators.

Nice work! I love the detail, gruesome as it is, about the eagle feeding on the insides of its kills first.

Eagles are such amazing creatures and this one can certainly add to that list! I adore the symbiosis with the 6th Legion. I steal your meat and I'll keep ickies away. x3

Aw, the story about the eagle and the 6th legion is precious, I love it.   'the unofficial symbol for the House of Glicia-Hadrianus is the Haitris eagle due to it habit of going for the soft underbelly of its target.' Terrifying.
