Emesa
The Emesa is a shrimp-like creature that is well-suited to inhabit a multitude of environments, but they seem to prefer the sandy estuaries and mangroves of the southern coast of Mirateia. They can be found all around Mirateia in different amounts. They are known for their green stribes across the dorsal side of their tail, the body colour ranges from orange to a blue, almost black colour. With a lifespan of up to five years, they are believed to reproduce when they reach their first year, are thought to migrate to the southern sea where they mate before they migrate back north and lay their eggs in the mangroves and sandy coastlines along estuaries. While found in most waters, they prefer warm waters where they are known to be significantly bigger than their counterparts in the colder waters.
Fishermen who make their living catching the Emesa know that the creatures are mostly nocturnal, and during the day, in areas where the tide is significantly large, they can be dug out of the ground from where they have sought shelter during the day. In some areas the Emesa is farmed to keep up with popular demand, but the farmed Emesa are generally seen as of lesser quality compared to their wild cousins.
They are a popular dish to be served among the coastal communities, where they are a stable item on the dining tables and can be turned into countless different dishes, a popular steetfood involving Emesa are up to four Emesa on a stick with vegetables and prepared on a grill and served with a spicy sauce. Some communities only serve dishes that contain Emesa to their children as they believe that they are good for the children and those that eat plenty of Emesa grow up to be healty
