Coal-bites

Coal-bites are street food served on the streets in cities. such as Pearlhal it's typically sold from braziers and more dedicated shops, it's not uncommon for butchers to have a corner of the shop dedicated to selling coal-bites, that act as a fast and easy way to make some extra coin and get rid of some of the meat that they can not sell due to low quality.   Coal bites get their name from some of the seasonings that are applied. Not all places that sell these use this seasoning, but the most popular places do, and this has influenced the name; in other cities and even the same cities have different names for the same item. Other commonly used names are Fire-points or Ash skewers.   Coal-bites consist of small chunks of meat that are then threaded onto wooden skewers and then grilled over an open fire until done. The most common types of meat that are used are goat, pork, mutton, off-cuts, or sausage meat, which are then seasoned with salt, vinegar, garlic, and wild herbs. Coal-bites are cheap since they usually consist of the trimmings and tougher cuts, meaning that they will cook faster, making them suitable for street foods that even the common people can afford. Some shops also add vegetables in between the meat, some even replace the regular types of meat and either make entirely vegetable skewers or use fish, with the fish meat being most common in the cities with access to the coast or large bodies of water.   They are often served on special days when games are going on in the city at the Hippodrome Festivus where the people watching the games can eat the skewers of meat while they watch the games with them afterwards, throwing the sticks at their feet.
