Barrow of Hollow Kings
Deep into the farmlands of the nation, one can find a place where the soil turns from its rich black colour to a sickly gray and the grass turns from a lush vegetation to becoming sparse and thin as hair. This area consists of a long, uneven ridge that stretches almost a day's walk in a north/south direction. The locals know the ridge as the Barrow of Hollow Kings. From a distance, the ridge looks like any other ridge, maybe a bit barren, but nothing more, since its soft slopes. Along the edge of the ridge on both sides and along its entire length, remnants of old standing stones with strange markings carved into them are found.
Locals say that if the wind is coming from the right direction, one can hear the clinking of metal beneath the ridge, like armoured ghosts. Shepherds say that they have heard voices speak in languages that have been long dead, and those brave or foolish enough to camp near the ridge say that their fires give no warmth, and those who have the nightwatch tell stories about ghostly figures, tall, pale and crowned, standing on the top of the ridge, gazing towards the east. Some even say that these figures have turned and looked and them, and that it felt like they were looking directly into their souls and that they felt a icy chill run down their spine before the figures turned their gaze away.
It's said that the ridge was made by the inhabitants of the region in a time before kings, or empires, maybe even before some of the gods. One local legend tells that ancient chieftains were buried underneath the ridge now stands and that their tomb forms a labyrinth of cold stone and silence. adventurers and treasure hunters that have ventured into the labyrinth tell that in the centre of it stands a empty throne with six other smaller ones around it, all occupied with the remains of the chieftains buried there.
