Avarinth Delta

Where the Avarinth river meets the ocean, along the Jade coast, a ever-shifting network of river channels, sandbanks and lowland isles fors at the mouth of the river, forming the delta, the terrain is constantly changing, were there was once just empty mudflats there are now a thick forests, forests turn to low grassy isles and entire isles vanish overnight.   The delta itself covers an area of hundreds of square kilometres, and due to the ever-changing layout of the river channels, no permanent roads exist, and one can only travel by pole-boat or raft. During the region's wet season, the delta floods and the nearby area, creating a near-inland sea. In the dry months, the river channels shrink, exposing ancient stones or drowned trees.
Map the delta and you will live forever¨
- Local saying, meaning that trying to map the delta is a worthless task as it
will just changethe next day or week and you will have to start over again.
The people living in and around the delta reside in floating villages and stilt-houses, navigating the delta by landmarks that only they seem to understand, such as a particular bendy piece of driftwood or the way the birds fly, or which direction tastes most salty. The locals have a deep knowledge of the coast and are often hired by merchants or others who need to navigate up or down the river.   Besides the ever present risk of getting lost in the delta or having the isle one camped on the night before, vanish in the morning, the local wildlife are also present, Mire-wolves, a lanky, semi-aquatic predator that hunts in packs and are able to mimic human cries for help.   Local legends claim that the delta conceals an ancient temple submerged beneath the mud, visible only to those who can summon the river's memory.

The mire wolves sound terrifying. I don't think I'd trust a pole boat against them. XD
