Aquillia class

The Aquillia class is the most common warship in the Dercian Navy, and it's a popular ship with the crew and officers to serve on.   The class is named after Vesnia Aquillia a famous captain who it is said raided hundreds of settlements belonging to the Alliance of City-states. during the First unification war.   The ship's design is a classic design for the region with its combination of oars, and sail, making it perfect for navigating the coats around the Mirateia. The Aquillia class is the latest version of this design and the first one equipped with slanting sails. As a fast and agile ship, it has allowed the Empire of Dercia to dominate their fleet engagements both against other nations but also against pirates.

Tactics

A favoured tactic of the captains of one of these ships would be to use the oars during a battle to keep a distance from the enemy. Meanwhile, the ranged weapons onboard would hammer the enemy with broadsides from the ballistas, with at least one or two being given the task of going after the enemy rudder and steering while others would go after the hull of the ship to penetrate the hull and sink the enemy.

Civilian use

Due to the agility and size of the ship, there has, in recent years, emerged a civilian version of the ship class called the Atronia Class this class have removed the oars to save space and cut down cost leaving the ship to be operated by only 12 sailors and two officers.

Big fan of the differentiation of the military versus the civilian Atronia Class. Inworldbuilding, it can be easy to say “they did the thing and then used it as is”. Here, we have this element of “yeah, it works well so others will want to use it with a few tweaks”.
