Raunafial Mountains

Table of Contents
A mountainous, seismically active region on southern Norithana.

Geography

The southern half of the continent Norithana is marked by mountains and smaller volcanoes. Dense forest are found in the valleys.

Ecosystem

Active volcanoes are most common in the northwest of the region, but the groundquakes occur throughout the continent's south. Consequently, landslides and avalanches are a constant threat. Animals tend to roam from place to place, and people are used to abandoning their settlements and rebuilding their homes elsewhere.   Nevertheless, most of the Werewolf population lives in that part of the continent because the north is even less habitable. The clans adapted to the environment by following the wild animals and building log cabin villages near their temporary feeding grounds. Their civilization is built around hunting and gathering since agriculture is rarely an option.

Climate

The climate is temperate, with cold winters and warm but short summers. Rain and snowfall are very common in the humid air.

Fauna & Flora

The valleys are covered in dense forests of hardy conifers. They are home to bovines and boars, predators like bears and wolves, and plenty of smaller woodland creatures like squirrels or ravens.

Natural Resources

The mountains are rich in metal ores and minerals. The forests provide wood, and many animals can be hunted for meat, leather, and fur.

History

About 100 years ago, a massive volcanic eruption occurred in the west. The lava and landslides devastated large parts of the adjacent forests, decimated the animal populations, and the local Werewolf clans escaped with little more than the clothes on their body. Consequently, there were more conflicts over resources, and many clans started traveling south in search of better living conditions. This led to a wave of Werewolf families emigrating to the continent Vinalur, the homelands of the Elves.
