Table of Contents
Savory puff pastry that is popular with rich people in Sil'heva.

General Properties

Appearance

The pastry is triangular with chopped nuts on top. One piece is approximately half the size of an adult Elf's palm.

Taste

It is umami and salty, with a slight bitterness from the walnuts and the spiciness of pepper and cinnamon.

Preparation

Core Recipe

First, sheep milk curd is mixed with sea salt, pepper, and cinnamon. The dough is cut into squares, and one diagonal half of each square is covered with one layer of the seasoned curd and one of fish eggs. Duck eggs are separated into yolk and white, and the latter is put onto the edges of those squares before they are folded. After pressing the outer edges together, the tops of the pastry pieces are covered in yolk, and chopped walnuts are sprinkled onto them.

Variations

Other spices may be added, depending on the wealth and tastes of the person eating them.

Cultural Significance

History

It was invented in the port city Sil'heva, where it is a delicacy enjoyed by wealthy inhabitants. The recipe soon spread to other trade hubs along the kingdom's coast. The name refers to the shape of the fish eggs.

The pastry is served as a snack along with the afternoon tea. Some people also like to dip it into a fruit chutney of their choice.
