Magic in the Elven population
The distribution of magical powers among the Elves.
Manifestation
Almost every Elf is attuned to at least one of the eight elements.
Of those who are past the threshold age, roughly 68% are attuned to one element from the primary tier as well as an adjacent element on the secondary tier. About 18 % are only attuned to one primary element. Rare cases are only attuned to a secondary element, or can access two secondary elements in addition to their primary one. A complete lack of magic is extremely unlikely.
About 13% of the population are children who have yet to learn the fundamentals. 50% are skilled in reading their element(s), whereas the remaining 37% can manipulate them to some degree.
The average Elf has learned basic element manipulation by the time they finish secondary school, but at this level, their magic is not useful enough to compete with mundane methods. Consequently, professional training focuses on precision and efficiency. Some ambitious people seek out higher education with a heavier focus on magic, and eventually learn to use more complex magic with less effort.

Proficiency
Attunement itself is only the first step. To actually benefit from their connection to those elements, an Elf has to train their perception of the currents and the ability to shape them.About 13% of the population are children who have yet to learn the fundamentals. 50% are skilled in reading their element(s), whereas the remaining 37% can manipulate them to some degree.

Localization
The tendency to attune to specific elements strongly depends on where a person's family came from.
Desert Elves
The Nobility of Norume are powerful Water wielders. Both Fog and Plant are very common as the secondary attunement. Commoners with similar attunements often rise through the ranks very easily. However, the most common attunement in Desert Elves is Energy. It allows them to bear the desert heat and store it for the freezing cold nights. Near the Hashkisa Taibun mountains, Lava is more likely as the secondary attunement, whereas Fire is more likely for people near the ocean.Northern and Southern Forest Elves
People near the coast or notable rivers tend to be Water-attuned, whereas those near mountains are most likely to be Ground-attuned. In regions with dense forests, Ground and Water are most likely in combination with Plant. Air is most likely for Elves who live on the plains, and Fire tends to be their secondary element. Air-attuned Elves can also be found near the coast, in which case it is often combined with Fog.Steppe Elves
The Steppe Elf tribes split from the Desert Elves for various reasons, so they tend to have similar distributions of the elements. Sometimes, the attunement played a role in the separation. For example, the Talma'kabi were several families of Energy-attuned people who were dissatisfied with the heavy preference for Water magic in Norume.Jungle Elves
The cultures in the northeast of Vinalur are mostly Water wielders. For the secondary element, Plant is almost twice as likely as Fog. Energy plays almost no role there, and Ground is far more likely than Air.Lowland Elves
The land south of the jungle is rather dry, but not as blazing hot as the Haesinu Desert west of the Hashkisa Taibun mountains. Energy is the most common attunement there, along with Fire and Lava. Air and Ground are quite likely, too, but Water is almost exclusively found near the coast.Northern Forest Elves

Magic in Mixbloods
In most cases, Mixbloods inherit the magical potential from their Elven parent. However, the widespread prejudice among the Elves often limits their access to proper training. Many Elven cultures are downright scared of the idea that their elemental magic might combine with the outlandish abilities of other species.
In many kingdoms, this fear led to cruel laws that aim to prevent the birth of Mixbloods. Some, like the Kingdom of Fir'arun, chose to hunt down and execute any who already existed.
Paradoxically, this means those who survived the persecution are most likely to be powerful wielders since their magic gave them an advantage over their peers.
"Really? I had no idea Air magic could do that!" - "Neither did I. But once my survival depended on it, I had no choice but to learn." - "Heh, same here. Being alone in a forest taught me faster than any book ever did."
