Children of the Eight

The religion that is deeply embedded in Elven culture.

Tenets of Faith

The core idea of this religion is to make the Divine Parents proud and thus prove oneself worthy of the magic that they gifted to the Elves.
A central belief is that, if the Elven culture becomes sufficiently advanced, they will gain access to godlike powers themselves and escape from the hardships of mortal life. Therefore, every Elf is encouraged to contribute to this progress.

  • The strongest magic users study the elements and the way magic can manipulate them. They also guide others on the path to unlocking their full potential.
  • Moderately strong magic users apply it in their mundane research, on the battlefield, or for charitable purposes.
  • Weak magic users and those who can only perceive the elements augment their workflow and contribute to the generally high living standard.
  • Those few who have no magical abilities can still support those who are actively advancing the Elven civilization, enabling them to focus on their efforts.

Ethics

Maintaining the Forward Momentum

Lifting other Elves up is seen as one of the most noble things to do. Therefore, people seek to teach others or donate to those in need. Those who can do neither seek ways to help those who can. In contrast, Children of the Eight despise anything that undermines cultural, societal, or scientific progress.

  • Lazy, unproductive people are thought to weigh the others down and prevent them from using their full potential.
  • People are meant to take good care of their body and mind to ensure that they perform at their best level.
  • Exploiting fellow Elves robs them of resources that they need elsewhere. Doing this for purely personal gain is even worse, because it does not elevate society on a larger scale.
  • Doing things "the old- fashioned way" is a waste of resources at best and a step backwards at worst. People are pressured to use the newest, most efficient methods.
  • Elves pride themselves on being the most advanced people in the world. As such, looking to other people-type species for inspiration - or worse, breeding with them - is seen as blasphemous.

Representing Civilization

A high living standard is seen as proof of how far the Elves have risen above the everyday struggles that other peoples face.

  • Even the cheapest equipment has some form of decoration, since magic is often used to manufacture complex shapes or intricate ornaments.
  • Every person is encouraged to practice at least one art form and make time for enjoying a number of others.
  • People of any social status keep their living space tidy and their clothes neat. They also care well for their hair and skin.
