Session 54

The following day, the Party woke early, ate, and headed out. It would take the group a full day's worth of travel before they arrived on the banks of the Wandering Brook. The group decided to settle down for the night and made camp underneath some trees. As they fell asleep, they kept an ear open for the sounds of trouble, while Typhon took the first watch.   In the middle of the night, as Typhon lay awake staring into the darkness, he noticed something odd. Silence. All of a sudden, the forest creatures stopped scurrying about. The familiar hoot of owls ceased, and even the crickets put away their instruments. Soon, a hot and terrible wind began to blow up from the southeast. It quickly gained strength and ferocity as leaves and then sticks and even rocks began to blow about. The wind turned into raging howl and soon, in the distance, Typhon's eyes spotted a massive shape barreling towards the now-awake party. It roared overhead and then banked away back to the east. Typhon recognized the silhouette as belonging to some kind of dragon, but he couldn't tell what kind. Sir Didymus suggested they give chase, but the rest of the Party talked him down. Eventually, the group decided to continue their rest before they entered the swamp in the morning.   The morning came and the group readied themselves. Before long, the mosquitos were having their with the Party long before they could hear or even see the creek. They made their way across the creek, with Bloodbane using his magic ring and the rest of the Party using their folding boat. As day quickly grew hot, and the swamp made it uncomfortably steamy and sweaty. Insects harassed them at every turn, and before long, they found something promising.   They came across a group of zombies huddled around an unseen mass on the ground. Their presence had gone unnoticed thus far. Typhon took the opportunity to quickly launch a fireball at the group, instantly annihilating five of them. The remaining zombies, including a pair of undead ogres began to shamble their way towards the adventurers. Just as Sir Didymus and Bloodbane dispatched what they thought was the last of the smaller zombies, the vines around Vigwalin seemingly began to writhe and shift beneath his feet. A large bush sprung to life, shooting out thorn-covered vines towards the defeated zombies and pulling them inside itself. It quickly spit out a pair of "living" undead creatures, as the ogres began to close to gap. The Party was quickly taken aback and scrambled to come to the aid of the the now surrounded druid. The monstrous plant made several whip attacks against Vigwalin and Sir Didymus nearly knocking him off Aloysius. The group rallied and was able to dispatch the venomous vines and the last of the zombies.   The searched the charred remains of the body that the zombies had been eating, and found that this person was likely a member of Lord Kisar Grav's hunting party, as he bore the family crest of House Grav.
