Session 42
The following morning, Bloodbane and Typhon asked Peria Webb about the fight club once again. This time, she told them to ask Whim Silverfin for details about the fights. The pair approached a young, silver-haired halfling sitting alone in the corner drinking an ale. Whim sat there, visibly uncomfortable and irritable. at the disturbance. Nevertheless, they persisted and Bloodbane pulled up a seat next to the hafling with Typhon and Sir Didymus joining him. They began to ask questions about the fight club, and while Whim was hesitant to say much more than what was already known, he did provide a little more information. As Bloodbane listened and sipped his drink, Whim tipped the bottom of the wooden mug, spilling the frothy brew all over the barbarian.
Bloodbane stood up in a rage, threw the table aside, and lept onto the halfling. The two fought ferociously, but ultimately Bloodbane's superior size and strength, coupled with his barbarian rage, resulted in a victory for him. Whim yielded, and agreed to replace Bloodbane's spilled drink. He left the Gruesome Hamsters, instead opting to cut his losses short.
The group's relaxation was interrupted when Gaston entered the tavern looking for them. He escorted the group over to Redford Keep, with a quick stop along the way at Dame of Flame. Outside the blacksmith, they ran into Qimys who was running around and playing with some other children. They chatted briefly about the things that Qimys had been getting up to since they last saw eachother. Gaston nodded over in the direction of the castle, highlighting a black armor-clad individual who had been assigned to guard her. Qimys gave each of them a hug before running off to catch up with her new friends. The Party, meanwhile, entered the blacksmith and talked with the massive red dragbonborn blacksmith, named Tare Esstyrlynn. They looked through her wares briefly, but found nothing that they wanted. They left, and continued on to the keep.
As the group entered the office of Qidius Hazeflower, they saw Parker Adams sitting in the corner. Qidius bid the group to have a seat. Their entire demeanor had changed and they were considerably more reserved and respectful than normal. Qidius gave them a gentle smile and said, in his usual soft manner, that he had some information for Bloodbane. He had looked into the Blackwater Naval Guild and found the name Baelnar Garkalan, a dwarven member of the group. He didn't have much in the way of specifics on Garkalan, but he knew that he could be found in Ravenwallow. The group thanked him for the information, and as they left his office, Qidius told them to stick around as he may have some work for them in the next few days.
That night, Bloodbane and Typhon decided to investigate the Envaris estate that they had heard about the night before. The house wasn't very far by foot from Elderburgh, but it was far enough that the sun had set by the time they arrived. The air around the house felt stale and unmoving. As the pair approached the house, they could hear the faint sounds of a woman crying. The house itself was heavily damaged, with burn marks all around and several broken windows. Instead of entering the house outright, the two adventurers searched the perimeter despite the fact that the front door was open. They walked around to the right of the house, looking for an alternative way in. They found one, near the back of the house. The broken window opened up to a study of some sort, with the desicated corpse of a woman in a blue dress on the ground. They heard the cry of a woman nearby, this time much closer than before. Typhon cast mage hand and began to drag the corpse toward Bloodbane, eventually handing it to the half-orc. He put the body on his shoulders and they began to dig a grave nearby, thinking that perhaps the burial of the body would assuage the spirit. They were wrong.
At that moment, the ghostly visage of an elven woman in a pale blue dress appeared. Both adventurers took off running as fast as they could in the direction that they came. Mile after mile they sprinted, the banshee of Lady Envaris close behind them. At about three miles, their endurance began to fail them as the spirit closed in on them. Typhon quickly cast misty step, sending himself out of harm's reach. Bloodbane was not so lucky. He turned to fight the creature, just barely able to withstand her terrifying appearance. She let out a horrible wail that instantly sent the mighty barbarian dropping to his knees. Typhon returned, and was also able to resist fleeing at her sight. Bloodbane picked himself up, thanks to his inborn half-orc abilities, and with the help of Typhon, was able to defeat the banshee.
Upon searching the remains of the spirit, they found a mysterious key, presumably to some room or vault within Lady Envaris' estate.
Battered and bruised, the pair returned to Elderburgh, where they rested for the rest of the night. They decided that they would return to the house the following day to search it.
