Session 33
As Theric struggled to remain calm, Typhon decided against further agitation. He suggested that the Party withdraw for the time being and pursue other leads. Parker Adams, who was busy playing the "bad cop" to Typhon's "good cop" took the hint and stopped pressing the elven priest. The entire group left the Church of Eldath and headed down to the The Spicy Sun Tavern to regroup and catch up.
Parker Adams was accompanied by three agents of The Sovereign's Shadow - Gaston, Hektor, and Vardon - who all joined them in dingy tavern. The group settled down for some drinks, and again, Parker ordered some ale after informing them that mead makes him sick. Typhon cleared up why they were protecting Qimys, and Parker offered the protection of the Shadow. It was clear that denying Ovrul Rend the Eye of Bael was imperative. However, in the meantime, the group needed shelter for the evening since they had no silvered weapons and they just provoked what they believed may have been the source of the lycanthropy. Parker offered to use his influence to secure rooms in Bellton Castle.
The group headed to the castle, where they were surprised to see that the gate was locked and no guards were posted outside. Parker noted how unusual that was. They knocked on the door and a young guard opened up the door after Parker flexed his credentials. The guard took them to see the town magistrate, the high-elf Romenor. As the group wound their way through the interior of the keep, they noticed all the paintings of previous rulers and various landscapes and battles. The room with Romenor was dim with a long wooden table with some maps and other documents sprawled across it. The magistrate was not at all happy to see Parker or his group, and his request was ill met. However, Romenor had no choice but to acquiesce to Parker's request. He agreed to give him the one room they had left for the lot of them.
The guard walked them back through the keep until they arrived at a small storage room on the side of the castle. The young man apologized for the state and size of the room, and promised to come back with some cots.
The group decided to place some orders for silvered weapons from Geathag Dayfinder Valu-Niago over in the Steel Wings blacksmith shop. But first, they would give the remainder of the lycanthropy cure to the guards, just to be safe. The gate guard introduced them to the Sergeant of the Guards, a surly black-bearded dwarf named Ebgran Ironhammer. He seemed quite happy to accept the gift of the waterskin with the cure.
The Party stayed up part of the night, keeping an eye over the town from one of the castle's vantage points. It was quiet - unusually so - and the guards on watch even remarked as such. It was the first time in several weeks that there had been no howling or growling throughout the town. It seemed that the cure worked. Typhon sent Hootie out to scout, and the familiar noticed a person walking in the woods in the direction of Mizar Stanfield's tower. They couldn't recognize who it was from their distance, but the group felt it best to have Hootie return and deliver a message to Mizar, just in case.
The rest of the night was mercifully uneventful, and the Party waited for dawn to make their next move...
