Lok
Lokks are a species of sapient bipedal reptilians that originated on the arid world of Lokkur. Having evolved on the dry mesas above river valleys, Lokks are adapted to hot, dry conditions with semi-regular access to fresh water. Lokks are also capable of slightly shifting their skin pigment colour, for camouflage and signalling purposes. Their eyes have numerous features (such as a negative lens, positive cornea, and monocular focusing) that give them exceptional natural observational skills, allowing them to take in large amounts of detail at varying ranges.
Lokks are known to be naturally diligent, taking care and pride in their work. They can be very particular about details, and often come across as perfectionist. On a species-wide level, this has resulted in a much stronger focus on work and efficiency than reproduction - Lokks have consistently displayed lower birth rates than comparable species across their entire developmental history. Since the early 19th century CE, Lokks have developed a particular interest in robotics, materials science, and industrial development. Xenologists continue to debate whether this is a purely cultural phenomenon or if it is some unique quirk of Lokken neurology. In recent years, particularly after the development of organic-synthetic transfer technology, the latter view has gained significantly more prominence.
