Mil'Averon

Mortal slaves, weary after generations of serving their draconic overlords, begged for the means of casting off their shackles. One night, urged by their pleas, the moon stole magic from the gods of the dragons and gave it to mortals. With that gift came an awful curse: that the use of magic would eventually drive the user insane.   Since those days, dozens of mortal empires have risen and fallen. The flying cities of the first arcanophants gave way to more stable constructions of the deathless lords of Siride; the Gemknights of Araun fell from the sky and gave way to the grim nihilism of the entropomancers of Viaka.   In this world, magic is abundant, but the means to control it is not. The most precious substance of Mil'Averon is Levethex: a fragile gem formed from where the blood of the orginal draconic deity of magic fell to the ground as he was robbed of his power by the moon.   Greedy kings build new thrones from the scattered stones of ruined empires, seeking nothing less but to replicate the half-remembered glories of ancient powers.   The sins of the forgotten past demand satisfaction in today's blood.   Grab a sword.
