Session 30: Hunt for the Throne Pt.5 Report

General Summary

With Azid in Xipe's clutches, Glebnor moved to save the wizard. Azid, not hesitating, misty stepped out of the clutches of the demi-god. Unfortunately for Glebnor, they left them alone against the vicious Xipe, who cut them down with his glaive. Kouvian, not about to let his ally die on account of the wizard, moved forward to engage the ogre of a creature. As Azid and the others fled the room, Kouvian remained and managed to slay the god of flayed flesh.

Once More Into the Gas

Somehow, despite everything that had just transpired, Azid convinced Glebnor to return to the cairn on the lower level. Fearing the loss of their ranger, the rest of the party reluctantly agreed. Once again, the wizard led them back into the toxic air of the lower levels of the pyramid.
Glebnor bashed a hole into the top of the cairn. Suddenly, an explosion of force and bones blew them off the cairn as swarms of bones attacked. While the party was engaged with the bones swarming around them, a wight rose from his tomb and attacked Azid. As Stinkbreath got the attention of the wight, Azid managed to ignite him in flames. The rest of the party discovered that the swarms of bones were weak to bludgeoning attacks, so they quickly made short work of them.
In return for their trouble, the cairn housed a single amulet that protected the wearer from being turned, assuming they were undead. This served only Geasle, who placed it around his neck.

Finally Moving Forward

Back in what they had dubbed the "snake room," the party discovered that Crucelia had used a rope to escape through the hole in the ceiling. They then became concerned about whether the thief could steal their ship without them. Realizing that there was nothing that they could do about it, they moved towards the staircase leading upward.
Glebnor led the way up the stairs, and as they did, they were suddenly encircled by glowing runes. Azid recognized this as a glyph or warding, but it did not seem to trigger anything. Then Glebnor heard what sounded like rolling stones. The party quickly retreated down the stairs, but nothing seemed to happen.
Azid sent his floating orb up the stairs and saw a giant stone statue of a young dragon on a cart with stone wheels. Using his orb, he cast a spell that forced it to roll down the stairs, crashing into the stone wall at the bottom.

Sacred Chitza-Atlan

Now that they were safely up the stairs, the party went through more winding hallways and eventually into a room housing some mummies and treasure. Azid, already wary of how these rooms worked, warned the party that the mummies would likely animate. Even still, the party proceeded to loot the room while the mummies remained motionless. That is, at least until they tried to leave through the western doorway.
One of the mummies, a centaur with a feathered headdress, engaged with Kouvian. Meanwhile, the other zombies fought against Geasle and Glebnor. Azid cast a potent firebolt at the centaur mummy, and the undead leader recklessly lunged towards the wizard. This gave Kouvian the opening he needed to attack. The party defeated the undead, but in the process, Glebnor was infected with the deadly mummy rot.     The session ended at 4:30 am on the second day in the pyramid.
