Orini

Orini is a secluded island nation northwest of the main contient. A strictly imposed policy of isolationism has made much or the society and culture of the nation a mystery to the wider world. The most contact that mainlanders have with Orini citizens comes from the few merchants that it allows to enter its southernmost port, though even that contact is severely limited.

Government

The Orini government is made up of a joint rule between the head of state and the head of the Chuch of Amateru . The citizenry is divided into a feudal hierarchy, with representatives from both the church and the state at each level of governance.   The feudal hierarchy is as follows:
Chuch Representative
State Representative
Imari (High Priestess)
Imyo (Overlord)
Hanari (Priestess)
Hanyo (Lord)
Sanari (Acolyte)
Sanyo (Knight)
The Imari, head of the church of Amateru is headquartered at Amateru's temple atop Mt. Amateru. The head of state's (Imyo) seat of power is located at the Imyo's palace in Mada City.   Below the rank of Sanari and Sanyo are two classes of general non-governing citizen:
  • Jaebaku - "Landowners" upper class citizens that own land.
  • Kimbaku - "Tenants" lower class citizens that rent land from Jaebaku, the church, or the state.
Class mobility is possible, but not particularly common, especially for non-elf races. Almost all non-elf Orini citizens are Kimbaku.

Geography

Orini is a stratovolcanic archipelago made up of thousands of islands. The four main islands, in order of size, are Orini, Honsho, Otahi, and Ranya. These four islands make up about 95% of the total land area of the country.   The terrain is primarily mountainous and tropical, although there are more temperate areas in the far northern regions of the country.

Physical Geography

The islands of Orini are made up of volcanic and coral islands. The majority of the landmass is made up of the Chichi mountain range, which spreads across the main islands and continues below the ocean surface far to the north and south of the islands. The largest mountain in this range is Mount Amateru, located in the central region of the island of Orini.   Active volcanic activity is common throughout the range, primarily on Ranya island in the south and the Tenshu islands in the north. Earthquakes and seismic activity is very common.   Owing to the volcanic and seismic activity, the islands are rich in mineral deposits including gold, copper, marble, and platinum.   The eastern costs of the islands are home to many coral reefs that make navigation to the islands extremely trecherous.   The majority of the rivers found in Orini are short, steep, and swift. There are almost no navigable rivers aside from some very small stretches found near the coasts.

Political Geography

Orini is split into several provinces, each governed by a Hanari and a Hanyo. Mt. Amateru and Mada City are not part of any province and are governed by the Imari and Imyo, respectively.   The provinces of Orini are:
  • Ranya
  • Otahi
  • Darashi
  • Sangwon
  • Daeji
  • Yamanaga
  • Aori
  • Taeji
  • Chido
  • Tenshu
  • Midoku
  • Mizumi
  • Honsho
  • Zengi
  • Inju
Each province is further subdivided into fiefs overseen by Sanari and Sanayo. Most major crossings between provinces are gated and require passports to pass through.
