Acolyte

An acolyte is an official student of Cosmos. A male magi can become an acolyte at any age. The youngest recorded was six months old, while the oldest was ninety-five. There are also no time constraints on how long someone is an acolyte. Either through personal choice, or denial of promotion, some can remain acolytes their entire lives.

There are three levels to being an acolyte, and it is possible for an acolyte to complete their training in three years, but most take five years.

  Initiate
  • The first stage in which the student studies the basics of Cosmos. They will also be required to spend time studying at each type of temple, perform minor duties such as lighting incense, singing in the choir, or meditating at shrines.
  • To progress, the student must have spent at least six months at each temple, completed an application for the sect of their choice and a dissertation concerning the doctrine of Cosmos.
  Minor
  • The acolyte begins training at the sect of their choice. During this period, they will be required to move across the country, and even continent, visiting and working at the temples in their sect. Their duties will also widen to include youth work and preparing the Cleric's robes for services
  • To advance, the student must receive commendation from at least two different clerics, and the student must have completed a dissertation concerning their angel of choice
  Major
  • In this promotion, the acolyte can now start directly assisting the Cleric, helping write sermons, visiting members of the community, and performing tasks within the service such as the lighting of candles and the blessing of food. They will still be required to travel acoss the continent, and must spend at least six months at the headquarters in Malagal.
  • To be promoted to cleric, acolytes must perform at least five services. Their studies and conduct will be reviewed, and then they will have an interview with the Presido in the region that they would like to work.

If the Presido approves, the acolyte must prostrate themselves before the Deacon in a ceremony attended by only members of the clergy. The Deacon will accept the acolyte, and they will become a cleric, though there have been incidents where the deacon has denied this.
