Bluehall Academy

Bluehall Academy is an institution dedicated to understanding and documenting the world and to spreading knowledge. They accept young adults as students, as well as some older adults who have reached a turning point in their lives. At any one time, it houses a few hundred students, another hundred faculty and researchers, and almost a thousand support staff: cooks, booksellers, builders, cleaners, guards, and service providers of all kinds. Most students pay fees to attend, but those with Marks of Destiny or who prove themselves to be both exceptional and poor, may attend on scholarship. Four academic departments compose the academy, each with their own faculty, buildings, and students.
  • The Seminary is the oldest department. It focuses on the study of the universe and its laws, focusing more on trying to develop a theoretical framework, but with some time given to practical applications. The department combines the study of cosmology, physics, metaphysics, theology, and magic. Seminary-trained priests pride themselves on their erudition.
  • The Collegium focuses their efforts on people. They began as a group of archivists, recording the stories of the first generation, trying to understand the fading memories of the old world and the momentous events of the new. They developed ways to study history, culture, literature, politics, and fine arts. Collegium-trained scribes are used in Xarlaca and abroad as unbiased sources of tradition and knowledge.
  • The Clinic studies living organisms, advancing the study of medicine, biology, botany, animal husbandry, ecology, public health, and agriculture. They have extensive test fields and pastures for growing plants and animals as well as a hospital that treats local patients and desperate travelers stricken by maladies that local healers can’t treat.
  • The Laboratory is the newest and smallest of the departments, and it focuses on developing practical inventions through engineering, magitech, and alchemy.
