Aasimar

Aasimar bear within their souls the blood of those from the higher planes of existence, celestials. The origins of their bloodline is mysterious, for it is rare that a celestial creature is seen on Meterra. On Apias they are most commonly seen in Vucrax , their kingdom, which embraces that celestial heritage.   Aasimar bloodlines are curious, as occasionally those borne of aasimar are not aasimar themselves, representing a more mundane race. Additionally, and perhaps more rarely, aasimar are occasionally born of non-aasimar parents, different from their kin they must find their own path. Often, those born outside of Vucraxian blend in with the society they are borne into, unaware of their true ancestry, some never finding why.   In terms of appearance, but can bear the appearance of any race. Overwhelmingly, however, they bear closest similarity to humans. The differences being that these folk generally have lustrous hair, flawless skin and piercing eyes.

Celestial Bloodlines

The aasimar of Vucrax perceive they are placed in the world to serve as guardians of law and good. Exemplars that others should follow. Significant families have celestial patrons, which expect them to further their desires, whatever they might be, for many this is to embody law, good and justice, but this is not a universal truth.   From an early age, some aasimar, one living member of a bloodline, receives visions and guidance from celestial entities via dreams. These dreams help shape an aasimar, granting a sense of destiny. Those members of the bloodline thus blessed are perceived as the future leaders of the bloodline, their representation in the world at large. They usually become the heads of family when they come of age.

Aasimar Guides

All aasimar bloodlines have links to angelic beings, even those who have turned towards evil. That being provides guidance to the aasimar, this connection manifesting in different ways depending on the being in question.   The angelic being is far from omniscient. Its guidance is based on its understanding of the tenets of its own moral code. From a mortal perspective this may end up with them being uncompromising and morally grey.

Conflicted Souls

Despite its celestial origin, an aasimar is mortal and possesses free will. The majority of the bloodlines follow the guidance of their celestial guide, though some families can come to see this as a curse. Those families who spurn their guide often find the very aasimar nature dying out of their bloodline, become mundane mortals, abandoned by that which previously had blessed them.   Some of these families, however, when turning away from their guide, find another, a being of malice and vengeance, though not necessarily evil, they are more arbitrary and less bound by the strictures of law. Most commonly, those who come to to be guided these join the Blood Angels, violent raiders and warriors, who raid and pillage where they please, few towns and cities having the desire or ability to stand against them. This lifestyle not only attracts aasimar, with other races joining them, their guides are less associated with bloodlines than with the fellowship of arms, of ties forged in blood spilt.

Subraces

Three subraces of aasimar exist: protector aasimar, scourge aasimar, and fallen aasimar.

Fallen Aasimar

Most commonly found in the Blood Angels, Fallen aasimar are the brutal warriors of aasimar kind, giving no quarter and expecting none either. Darker of skin and hair than their fairer cousins, Fallen aasimar have often rejected their family's bloodline and guidance, seeking instead to forge their own destiny. It is seldom that a Fallen aasimar will have children of aasimar heritage.

Protector Aasimar

Protector aasimar are the most common type of aasimar in Vucrax itself, their families are good citizens who insist on upholding the law as passed down by the king to his countrymen. They make good soldiers and stolid warriors, but less commonly rise to positions of power.

Scourge Aasimar

Scourge aasimar are rarer and more often associated with the ruling classes in Vucrax, even the royal bloodline itself. Their guides imbue the family with powerful energy that blazes intensely within them. It feeds a powerful desire to lead and do battle, to defeat the aasimar's foes whomsoever they may be. Guides of bloodlines of this type guides are the most zealous and wrathful among the aasimar, which can leave them anywhere from unflinching at best to being riven with all consuming hate at worst.   Scourge aasimar are seen not only in Vucrax, but some bloodlines, whether by force or by choice leave Vucraxian society, often ending up with the Blood Angels, where they rise high. Their desire to cleanse the land of what they perceive as the greatest evils.
