The Greater Fiends
Fiends, one half of the residents of the Other World, the strange land that appears as a mirror of Merulia, come in many shapes and sizes. Despite the typical reaction that Fiends are evil and their counterparts, the Celestials, are good, this is rarely the case. Many of them intermingle, with Devils, Angels, Demons, Archons, Nephilim and more sharing cities and even homes. However, there are factions and even nations of these creatures that stand opposed to each other.
Like many races, the fiends gather around leadership figures. At some point, these fiends took on new names, their originals lost to time. These names, more akin to titles, are well known to wizards, clerics and more. The following table shows their alignment, of import when chosen as a Warlock Patron, as well as the element they are often associated with. Note that Kaiser is unavailable as a Patron, but included in the table for consistency.
Kaiser | Chaotic Good | Fire |
Sovereign | Lawful Evil | Light |
Rex | True Neutral | Lightning |
Khan | Lawful Good | Earth |
Vizier | Chaotic Evil | Dark |
Tsar | Neutral Good | Arcane |
Malika | Neutral Evil | Wind |
Duke | Lawful Neutral | Ice |
Baron | Chaotic Neutral | Water |
Kaiser
Kaiser was foremost amongst his kin. A powerful demon, chaotic in nature, but despite his grim appearance, clad in a dark carapace, with bat like wings, glowing red eyes, coal black skin and razer sharp teeth and claws, he was generally viewed as a magnaminous figure, and sought to do best by his followers. A skilled combatant, wielding a strange black blade, named the Achaiko, forged from a scale of the Obsidian Dragon that fell millenia ago, he embodied fire itself, rendering it useless against him. Kaiser was generally called upon to end disputes between the other Fiends and even Celestials more oftan than not. However not everyone appreciated his nature, his strange mixture of chaos and yet peacekeeping, nor the way he opposed those who attempted to wage war between the factions. One day, during his mighty duel with Vizier, he was summoned to Merulia from the Other World, by mislead champions who fought him in a grueling battle, refusing to heed his words. Unwilling to slaughter what ultimately were innocents, Kaiser laid down his own life, knowing that his soul would endure. What he had not anticipated was that one of the heroes had being selected as a vessel to imprison his soul within. And thus Kaiser ceased to exist in the Other World, instead his soul carried and passed down a bloodline. Records from before the Starfall indicate that the last known carrier of the Soul traveled to the storm continent before it became cut off, but as Kaisers soul has failed to manifest once more in the Other World, it is believed they continue to carry it to this day.Sovereign
Sovereign has becomes known as the de facto leader of the fiends. Powerful beyond compare, and without Kaiser to keep them in check, the mighty devil raged war and managed to subjugate many of the other factions, claiming their domains for themself and ruling with a cruel, iron fist. Many know of Sovereign, and some have even made pacts with the creature, basking in the fiendish power. Others deemed useful, but not worthy of the power of Sovereign themself end up finding their pacts instead tied to another fiend or celestial lord, if accepted at all. Sovereign is to Law and Order what Kaiser was to Chaos and Freedom. As such, many Celestials have chosen to follow rather than fight, as their goals ultimately align. Sovereigns ultimate goal is to lay claim to the entirety of the Other World, and find the lost fortress of Pandemonium.Rex
Rex is considered by many to be one of the few figures capable of opposing Sovereign. She has long opposed their rule, but is not able to gather such an army herself. Instead she goes from faction to faction, whispering secrets and tactics and building rebellion against Sovereign. She has no alturistic means here, simply feeling that the Other World is better when the factions are free to do their own thing, and not all be forced to follow a singular leader. Amongst her followers, both of Merulia and the Other World, she is known as the schemer, the tactician, and other such titles. Always planning, always seeking how best to get a one up on her opponents. She is neither Devil, nor Demon, but simply a fiend.Khan
Khan is often viewed strangely amongst his demonic kin. For one, he does not appear to have a chaotic bone in his body, instead eagerly seeking to introduce laws, order and structure to the lives of his followers. For a time, he was content to follow Sovereign, whos laws fit with what Khan desired. But as time passed and more and more people were subjugated, he began to have doubts. Khan is many things, but evil he is not, and he could not keep turning a blind eye to how his beloved laws were being used to harm instead of protect. Eventually, after a meeting with Rex, he managed to splinter off from Sovereign, laying claim to a great swathe of land with which to oppose the powerful Devil.Vizier
Vizier strikes terror into all who encounter him, and even Sovereign is reluctant to bring battle to the mighty demon. Vizier cares not for the politics, the diplomacy or the reasons, merely existing for one purpose: to bring chaos, fear, pain, famine and death to all whom he encounters. Kaiser, another creature of chaos, once dueled Vizier for tendays on end, their mighty battle scarring the land itself, before Kaisers summoning to Merulia forced them apart. With the only demon equal in power to himself now gone, Vizier was free to rampage to his hearts content, and the only thing stopping him destroying everything outright was the size of the world and his own transient nature. He has next to no followers, for few survive, and those that do are driven to madness.Malika
Malika is considered by many to be the most insidious of the fiends. She appears celestial in nature, her grand, bird like wings fooling many who encounter her for the first time, but she is as fiendish as they come. Conniving, double crossing and ever planning her next move. Some view this as similar to Rex, but Rex has some standards and morals. Malika would sell her own mother if it let her get ahead. She has one simple goal, claim Pandemonium for herself, before any others. While they battle each other over the lost fortress, Sovereign trying to bring all under his domain to find it easier, the others unable to search while under constant assault by his forces, Malika instead is focused purely on finding it by any means necessary, even if it means bargaining with Merulia's denizens to do so. And thus, when a rift powerful enough to admit a Greater Fiend appeared in the Other World, she did not hesitate to fly through, to further her own goals and discover just where Pandemonium may lie.
