The Oath of the Traveler
The oath taken by all vagabonds, lowlives, disgraced Assembly members, Imperial Army, Navy, Magic Corps soldiers and commanders, blackguards, misfits, and more. It is an oath taken at the gates of The Fortress of the Pit before being allowed entry, signed on a contract in the blood of the utterer. For it is binding from now in all life, until death takes the one saying its binding words.
"I come to this conclusion. This natural end.
My honor is broken, my shame complete.
The journey I endured, a walk full of bends.
I come to you broken.
Shattered.
Incomplete.
Seeking a new purpose, one with a path replete.
I stand before you know, to take up the call, to take the oath.
The oath of the traveler, forsaken by most.
I offer you my soul, damaged and downtrodden.
I offer you my sword, chipped, and rust-bitten.
I offer you my blood, tainted and unworthy.
I offer you my mind, weak and timid.
I offer myself, to you, The Abyssal Watchers.
I ask you to reforge me in the furnace of war, to remold me in the hands of horror.
Be a balm for my soul, confide in me your strength.
Be a stone for my blade, renew it with your wisdom.
Be a cleansing presence for my blood, make it worthy of my family.
Be a fortess for my mind to inhabit, never to break.
I shall take no wife.
I shall propagate no more children.
I shall know no effort but the eternal watch, the eternal war, the eternal struggle.
I shall protect this bastion, this city, and my empire with every fiber of my being.
I shall protect every brother and sister at my side with every effort I can muster.
I shall stare into the Abyss and know it stares back,
But I shall have the courage to hold its gaze,
And never shy from its darkness.
I am one of the vanguard.
I am one of the first to fight.
I am one of the last to die.
I am the first to dive.
I am the last to leave.
I am the bane of demons.
I am the light that burns brightest in the shadows.
I am a paragon of Hate.
I am a warrior of Harbinger.
I am an Abyssal Watcher, bulwark against the terror.
I am.
And so it is.
And so it shall always be.
