The Church of the Deathsworn
The Church of the Deathsworn is a pseudo-sect of The Church of Harbinger that is a militant faith based around recoinassance and specialized assassination for the highest value and most dangerous/important targets. Due to this, they employ to actualyl deploy only six assassins, all of which are Immortals. Seen as rather strange and offputting by their Immortal kin, the Immortals of the Church of the Deathsworn worship Harbinger and Death simultaneously as one in the same being, worshipping the concept and idea of death. To them, killing is an art form, a divine rite to be done in the most correct and proper manners. Their loyalty has long been put into question with their dual faith seeming problematic, yet in reality it has never resulted in any truly heretical action, and seeing as Death is more of a construct that they give traits versus a sentient, living being that has dictated its will in a religious manner that might strain their obedience to The Empire, they are allowed to exist, but eyes suspiciously when around their more 'normal' brothers and sisters.
Their services have been acquired multiple times by The Red Circle and Shakan personally, undertaking missions of extreme import with regard to the security of The Empire. Assassins from range and up close of utterly peerless design, they take on missions even the IDG and other assassination focused Assembly Orders cannot be trusted with, or those that no one can know about. They will court other offers, but their price can be that of nearly unrealistic to pay. As for what they take for payment, no one really knows, and it seems that most would keep it that way.
They seem to be nearly impossible to contact, and almost no one seems to know their home base location, other than those who are deemed to know such knowledge and it is closely held, yet it seems that fate may guide one to their sanctum to speak with their leader, only when their need of their services is greated. For all intents and purposes though, to even members of The Assembly aside from all but the most important, the Church of the Deathsworn is essentially an urban legend. An unsubstantiated myth that has no backing in reality. Evidence presented has been shoddy at best, with explanations, alibis, and reveals that always seem to provide closure to strange scenarios. Looking into them is seen as a fools errand and often outright forbidden by higher ranking Assembly members of their subordinates due to the fact is essentially a conspiracy theory to most people with the information they have.
Structure
The organization is structured of only six real members. Five subordinate Immortals to one superior rank, that being the Visage of Death. It is unsure how he is chosen, but seemingly after a certain amount of time served, the Visage simply disappears. Said to have been taken to the afterlife by the Deathsworn herself. Then a new one is chosen, and they undergo the ritual known as The Binding. After which their lips are sewn shut by an unknown entity so as to not ever speak of what they saw.
Culture
The culture of the Church is cultish, silent, ominous, and creepy to be honest. Black wax candles burn barely emitting enough light to see where you are going in their sanctum, incense floats in a haze. Wordless, silent disciples and acolytes seem to almost glide across the floor to unknown objectives. One would feel themselves being watched, and a fear would rise in all but the most hardened of being whisked off to the hanging blood harvesting cages in the lowest depths of the Silent Sanctum, or even worse torments to be subjected upon them.
Words are rarely spoken between anyone, even the unbound Immortals see speech as a needless thing and only speak when it is of the utmost import. To hear such an Immortal speak is considered both an honor and a great burden for what they typically say is disastrous and glorious. Their acolytes whisper in hushed tones in the quietest of tones as to not disturb their overlords prayers and holy incantations and rites of death that undertaken each day at nearly all times. For the Deathsworn, death itself is an art. It is a form of worship, a divine communion between the taker of the life and those who surrender theirs. The rending of flesh from the throat, the pulsating of blood out of arteries. The squeeze of the trigger and the silent hiss-thump of an annointed, suppressed heavy rifle delivering a divinely ordained round to the heart, head, or neck of their target. It is all a manner of worship, a manner of reverence. For life is not to be so easily and callously taken. It is to be measured, to be considered, to be valued.
