An excerpt:
It has long been thought that the gods could bless certain individuals with innate magic, as part of some sort of blessing to their parents. Or, perhaps, the gods gift this magic through some insight that they may have that the sorcerer themselves will be in great need of such power at some point in their lives.
This is somewhat if you trace certain heritages. The lunar and shadow heritages could be seen as gifts from Venebri. The storm sorcery could be a gift from Nerovae, Felisis, or even Iros-est - and there are more connections to be drawn beyond just those.
But if that were the case, why is there no heritage devoted to battle strategy, blessed by Bellatan? Or sorcery derived from good wine and companionship, a gift from Politia?
It is a fraught hypothesis, to be sure - and while it is not my place as a researcher to shy away from uncomfortable truths, the question then becomes: what would Reka, or Angoi'suppice's blessing wrought upon the world?
And if gods can bless infants with magic, does that mean other powerful creatures can also grant such gifts as well? What would a demonic sorcerer, or a sorcerer who was blessed by a beholder, lich, or some other monstrosity hold? We already know that dragons and demons can interbreed with humans, and one of the two can produce offspring gifted with magic.
One shudders to think of the consequences that some of these hypotheses, if true, would mean for the Mortal Plane.
