Ghani's Ground
The Gunpowder Massacre was a traumatic time for both Karasi and Cactsia, though it marked a turning point in the The Cactsian Expansion War that saved Karasi from subjugation. They have Faheem Baral to thank for that... as well as Joshua Ghani.
One of the first gun masters in the Karasan military, he was essential to defeating the Cactsian forces on the Memorial Fields, and was killed by a Cactsian officer protecting his homeland.
Grateful for his sacrifice, the Bellahan granted land to his family, and in the years since then the Ghani family has built up a little village right on the edges of the Memorial Fields, turning the death of their father, son, brother, uncle, and cousin into an opportunity that benefits the whole family.
Aarushi, Joshua's widow, is still the community leader, and while in her 50s she is still a strong and commanding presence (though some would perhaps say her grief is still too strong to render her an effective leader).
Demographics
Since the Ghani family is a human bloodline, most of the first settlers of the area are relatives (and therefore at least half-human). This has held overtime, with about 98% of the populace being of human heritage.
Overtime, dwarves, elves, and gnomes have trickled in, but only the halfling population is even 1% of the whole.
Government
The Ghanis are not Bellahan, but their servitude during the Cactsian Expansion War has earned them a bit of autonomy underneath their Bellahan (Jai Bharucha).
Industry & Trade
The area around Ghani is mostly farmland, and the exports reflect that: wheat, beef, hemp, and yellow trefoil are the most common.
The Ghanans are people of simple taste, but they have taste nonetheless; flavorful goods like beer, sugar, and spices are their main imports.
Ghani's Ground's economy is stable, but stagnating. Some entrepreneurial folks are interested in kickstarting it again...
Districts
Aarushi's Well
Aarushi, wife of Joshua Ghani, built the well of polished white stone herself as the first memorial to her husband upon receiving the land.
Since then, the modest village has grown around it as a starting point.
The cracks that form in the well stones are filled with gold - an extravagant expense that Aarushi pays for herself as a continued tribute to her late husband.
Besides the well, the Red Boar Inn is the most prominent fixture: it is a single story half-timbered building, with roughly hewn wooden tables and benches, with a graphic depiction of a severed boar's head on the sign.
The innkeeper, Atell (a young female human), is a newcomer to the area and runs the entire thing herself - though secretly, she uses a magic ring to listen in on the conversations of her guests and help herself to the materials in their bags that they will not miss until they are well away from Ghani.
The Blade Quill and Greater than Riches are owned by gnome siblings, Bana and Ciril Sanaka. Bana, the younger sibling, always looked up to and defended his older brother Ciril - and defensively claimed to anyone who derided Ciril for his bookish nature that "the pen is mightier than the sword." Hence, the name of his armory. Ciril is grateful, if a bit embarrassed, by Bana's admiration. (if it comes up, Ciril is FTM transgender)
Memoriandus
A somber and quiet district, what was once a family temple has grown into a small collection of various altars and temples to various deities of the pantheon.
The Tomb of Joshua Ghani is the centerpiece: a grand mausoleum of polished silver that is tended to by the priests and faithful as part of their rituals of worship (particularly those of Bellatan).
The Divine Traveler's Rest provides free housing for those traveling through Ghani, but there is sometimes conflict between them and the Red Boar Inn, as the inn misses out on quite a bit of gold from travelers that take up the hospitality of the chapel.
