Ósigrandi
In the frozen reaches of Northern Mercuria, the city-states of the former Ónfendur Republic convened a Seven Year Council to discuss the rise of Eburlona to their South, and therefore the need to unite once more. After the better part of a decade passed, a deal was finally struck and the Republic of Ósigrandi was formed. Led by the Council of Seven, Ósigrandi has maintained a relative peace with the bordering Eburlona, as well as friendly relations with the nearby Exul. Over the course of the Halcyon, Ósigrandi prospered from their diplomatic relations between the countries and slowly came to forgive the dual descendants of the Imperitan Empire. Following more recent events, there has been pressure applied by the Emperor of Eburlona to form an alliance that excludes Exul, as well as a mutual protection pact proposed by Exul. The direction that the council wishes to take is torn, and could be influenced...
Structure
The Council of Seven is composed of one leader from each of the seven major factions within Ósigrandi. These leaders are, generally, elected to their positions by the people within their own faction and are held in high regard both locally and nationally. Together, the Council of Seven vote on any changes within the country and will act as leaders in times of crisis.
Public Agenda
The primary focus of Ósigrandi is the protection of her peoples in the wake of the 200 Year War. Secondary to this goal is the prosperity of all within her borders, as well as the preservation of her culture and traditions.
Assets
Ósigrandi has a wealth of resources available to them, as well as imposing fortresses built into impregnable mountains.
History
Ósigrandi came into being at the conclusion of the Seven Year Council, intent on providing her peoples security and prosperity.
Demography and Population
The natives of Ósigrandi are primarily composed of Dwarves, Goliaths, and Half-Orcs, though Dragonborn and Humans are also somewhat common, if only as a minority. Each faction contains its own share of races.
Factions
Jafnir - Jafnirmix of all Northern races
Reika - Goliaths, half orcs
Jarnsmidur - Dwarves only
Verslun - Dwarves, Humans, Dragonborn
Serkari - Unknown
Skógur - Humans, Half Orcs, Goliaths
Hervörn - Dwarves, Goliaths, Half-Orcs, Dragonborn
Territories
Ósigrandi occupies the landmass North of the Hilly Strait. It views the strait itself as a no man's land buffer between itself and Eburlona
Military
While there is no standing army dedicated to Ósigrandi as a whole, each faction enjoys varying levels of organization and experience of security forces. In the event of a national threat, the Confederation would be able to combine her forces with relative ease. Among her forces, the most well known may be the Berserkers of the Serkari Faction, or the Valkyrie of Hervörn.
Technological Level
Specific to Ósigrandi, the Lightning Rail was invented here, as were the warforged. Both of these technologies have served Ósigrandi very well throughout history.
Religion
After the fall of Ónfendur, the Northerners decided to stay with their Gods and continue to worship the Frozen Pantheon to the present day. Many strongholds and even some towns are named for them. No religions are outlawed, and other pantheons can find followers here.
Foreign Relations
Presently, Ósigrandi is on friendly terms with Exul and on neutral terms with Eburlona. She engages in trade with both countries, though certain factions may be more or less friendly to each.
Agriculture & Industry
What Ósigrandi lacks in agriculture, it makes up for in industry and manpower. Sitting on a figurative and literal goldmine of raw materials, Ósigrandi provides mana crystals, ore and other refinable materials to her neighboring countries. Additionally, after some of these are refined, they have been used in the creation of the world famous Lightning Rail, offering incredibly fast transport across hundreds of miles. Ósigrandi is also the leader in the designing, manufacturing, and repair of various constructs, such as the Warforged. Of some note is also the export of wool and other clothing material/
In addition to these resources, Ósigrandi is also known for her mercenaries for hire. Honed in tougher conditions than other countries are used to, these soldiers are expensive, but their experience is well worth the coin.
Trade in Mercenaries/Guards, Trains, Mana Crystals, Constructs, Wool
Trade & Transport
Ósigrandi engages in trade with her neighbors by merchant caravan, ship, and airship (in the case of Exul). When the Lightning Rail connected Ósigrandi and Eburlona, it was a booming source of trade, but the main line between the two countries has been in disrepair for centuries, so the Lightning Rail now only connects cities within Ósigrandi.
Education
Each faction has their own means of education that cater to their particular areas. The most conventionally educated come from the universities within the major cities, while the more tribal groups learn survival and history.
Infrastructure
Ósigrandi is home to a plethora of fortresses, cities, outposts, forges, and mines. Built to last, these each have their own interconnecting roads and Railways. Sewage and underground aqueducts are common, as are bridges and airship landing spaces.
