History of the Order of the Old Empire

Saviors, warriors, monsters, there are many words to describe the Order of the Old Empire. Claiming to bear the torch of the once mightiest empire in the known world, they were beaten over and over again, and yet continue to recover and try to achieve their dream of reforging the Richardian Empire.

Fall of an Empire

Dominating the Chon Delta and from it the surrounding regions the Richardian Empire was once the mightiest Empire in the known world. However, due to civil unrest, multiple famines, as well as two civil wars the Empire is crumbling and its defenders are spread out too thin to act against the many vultures that attack it, be it from the exterior or the interior.

    The peace of Gradaska
    Diplomatic action

After twelve years the 2nd Hekman war, a civil war between the Royalists supporting emperor-elect Daan Richardus and the Hekmanians, supporting Lindert Hekman, for the throne, ends with an uneasy truce. As both sides lack the power to finish the other off, a dual monarchy is installed, making both Co-Emperors.   Not only did the civil war devastate the heartland of the Richardian Empire, considerably weakening it at its core, but its changes to the political system also ensured that it'd be considerably less flexible and prone to infighting.

Foundation of the Knights of Erkstadt
    Founding

Fearing for their position of power in the slowly stabilizing double monarchy, a group of powerholders, formerly Royalists who have amassed great wealth from plundering the belongings of Hekmanians, come together to formalize a pact to protect each other interests in this still uncertain time.   To hide this nominally illegal act, they claimed to form a new knightly order, known as the Knights of Erkstadt, formally pledging themselves to retake the city of Erkstadt, which had fallen to Rhendorian invaders during the civil war.

    1st Tirgardian Rebellion
    Military action

Following a continuous decline of Imperial authority during the past century, the imperial province of Tirgard in the hinterlands outside the Chon Delta seizes the seemingly excellent opportunity to proclaim their independence. Their proclamation is not accepted by either of the emperors, leading to a three-year-long campaign to reclaim the province and show that the Empire is still capable to defend itself.   After the three years, the province lies in ruin, as the Imperial troops were ordered to make an example of the province. Most notably, the provincial capital of Blomzau is burned down entirely by the order of emperor Richardus. Furthermore, the Imperial troops and reserves are exhausted, the treasury bleeding dry with the burden of financing a continued occupation, while still maintaining one of the larger empires.
