Blown Glass

Created by smiths, blown glass is the key to the longevity and expanse of the Empire. The art originated for practical and medical purposes before it was usurped by weapons manufacturers. Magic is in the air, and anyone can become a smith with the right talent and dedication, though it's traditionally been a boy's club.   Glass was chosen as the vessel, as it was the only substance flexible enough to allow the magic to take shape. The only limitation in blown glass is the glassmith's imagination (and lung capacity.) Multiple smiths working together have been known to create spells the size of buildings. Initially, all blown glass was sculptural, but it was discovered that the effects multiplied after the glass smashed. There are disagreements in the community over this aggressive style, which lends itself more to fighting. All glass weaponry is single use, as it must be destroyed to release its power.

Effect

Blown glass takes its purpose from a glassmith's intent and the skill of the shaping. It can be used to make light, to induce tranquility, to cook food. Broken glass has a higher yield.

Side/Secondary Effects

Spells that require shattering the glass (as opposed to blown glass that generates power within), usually result in shrapnel cuts. It's common for glassmiths to be badly scarred, both by flying shards and by the heat from the initial casting.

Manifestation

Sculptural blown glass has no physical effects aside from whatever spell it contains, but smashed glass is accompanied by brief, searing heat, like air from the kiln.

Source

The magic of blown glass is channeled from the air.
