Ulur Deep

The Ulur Deep is a cavern of weeping ice reputed to be the burial place of generations of buried Onoit shamans. It is briefly mentioned in the REALMS OF TERRINOTH sourcebook   LOCATION The Ulur Deep is located within the mountains just south of the Mighty Frigid River. It is far from any known settlement, so unlikely to be found by accident. While there are menhir (standing stones) leading the way, it isn’t a straight forward path, so requires some Onoit knowledge to follow.   HISTORY The cavern has a strong connection to the nature spirits of Mennara and Isheim in particular. The Onoit often come here to take advantage of this connection, but also to bury their dead to join with the spirit world.   INHABITANTS The caverns are inhabited by Gnomish Ancestral Specters (see Dwarf Ancestral Specters in the REALMS OF TERRINOTH sourcebook, page 195, but with the following changes: their Ancestral Gaze works for Gnomes not Dwarves and they can have a variety of ethereal weapons, though all have the same statistics as this entry). They are not likely to attack fellow Gnomes or Spiritspeakers and instead may engage them as trusted allies.   THE CAVERNS Primal magic is very strong in the caverns. The difficulty for any primal spell cast in the caverns is one less than normal. Onoit rituals can also take advantage of this power to work magic unheard of in any other location. They often do this in a constant battle with the Rime Storm to keep the villages and cities of Isheim free of its deadly wrath.
ADVENTURE SEEDS The caverns can be used in a campaign in a variety of ways. The following Adventure Seeds provide ways to introduce the location. • A former Onoit Gnome hires the group to serve as extra muscle while making the journey to bury a loved one. The way to the cavern is long and through some very harsh terrain in Isheim. • If there is a Primal caster in the group, this location could offer a way to work a previously impossible magic feat. He or she may ask the group to help them reach the cavern. • The Rime Storm has recently pushed farther south than ever before. The usual rituals aren’t able to hold the storm. The group must convince both the Onoits and the spirits of their ancestors to join forces in a final ritual to push the storm north, even though it may mean those spirits lose their individual natures to ultimately join a higher plane.
