Ley Lines

Magical currents and how to use them

Work in progress / Stub

Where ever one travels, the magical network known as The Weave flows through the planes of existence. While the Weave is everywhere, on some places it flows more rich and vibrant, as invisible streams that gather great amounts of power, sometimes forming even visible manifestations of magical beams that crackle and twist with great arcane force.

These streams, visible and invisible, both strong and weak are known as the ley lines. Ley lines can emit great amount of power, which when properly harnessed can give a great boon for magic users - but when used carelessly, it might as well become their doom.

Drow elves, among some other societies are particularly interested of the ley lines and prefer to build their cities in the crossing of the great streams to receive boons that the energy can give. What each Ley Line does varies, sometimes significantly. The great crossings of the Ley lines can form different types of magical hotspots. These vary from the Spiritgroves to natural occurring portals and to pathways that can help an individual traverse great distances inside the same plane, as well as many other manifestations.

Sources and Inspiration
Some of the features of Ley lines are inspired by several sources, including the Midgard campaign setting by Kobold Press as well as some of the lore from Guild Wars 2. Influence can be seen in the text and effects some of the rules used in Melyria Campaigns.
