Season 3, Session 6 - Evening of Fire and Illusion

Date Played: 2024-08-18 • In-Game Date: 20 Jazur, 3520 NY

The evening show in Everbrook mixes improvised spectacle, careful stagecraft, and emerging anomalies above the inn.

Recap Summary

After the daytime performance, the Crown's Heirloom Inn was reset for the evening show. Preparations were briefly interrupted by the sighting of invisible, airborne green worms. A scouting trip to Upper Everbrook secured temporary credentials, and the troupe returned to deliver a successful program: an improvised “summoning,” featured songs, audience engagement, and a grand illusion. Post-show, further worm activity was observed.

Acts, Scenes, and Moments

  • Act I – Reset and Omen
    • Scene: Staff cleared and prepared the hall between shows.
      • Action: Zedhryx Trevelle stepped out to compose himself after the time-era revelation.
      • Action: Adaranth Monroe departed with the Selûnar twins to get ready; Nissa and Fazzo remained with Draphi Oturo.
      • Action: An odd whooshing overhead revealed (via magic) two invisible green worms that opened the front door and drifted out.
  • Act II – Upper Everbrook Errand
    • Scene: Draphi, Nissa, and Fazzo rode a conjured fey carriage to the high city.
      • Action: After fees and bureaucracy, they received provisional credentials as visiting “Arcanists,” then hurried back for curtain time.
  • Act III – Audience Anomaly
    • Scene: House opens; performers assemble.
      • Action: Fazzo detected a familiar scent and identified a single black-scaled “lizardman” near the back.
      • Action: Closer view showed it was three kobolds from Fazzo’s own clan stacked in a long coat to appear human-sized. They had fled the dragon that rules their clan, which is the same dragon Fazzo knows.
      • Action: Fazzo calmed them, explained his independence, and asked them to remain after the show for a private talk.
  • Act IV – The Summoning Bit (Improvised)
    • Scene: Adaranth conducted a live change to the opener.
      • Action: The Selûnar twins (performing as Marin Bell and Astara) traced a summoning-sigil while Adaranth “manifested” in smoke and flame; staged tussle and crowd work concluded the act to applause.
  • Act V – Featured Song: Draphi
    • Scene: Draphi took the stage in her formal performance attire.
      • Action:Draphi appeared in her “eternal debutante” dress—processed black ironfeathers with an organic multicolor shimmer—paired with a matching shawl and gloves. A bright diamond cube-prism phylactery hung at her throat, and on her finger gleamed an oversized rectangular ruby ring whose three heart-shaped voids drifted within like flowing blood. She suppressed her overt undead traits for a lifelike presentation.
      • Action: Performing a darkly comedic ballad about preferring the dead to the living, she suppressed her undead traits for a lifelike appearance. The audience responded with admiration and laughter, unaware of the song’s deeper meaning.
  • Act VI – Moonfire Hunt
    • Scene: The Selûnar twins returned with holy flaming clubs, continuing the hunt for the “demon.”
      • Action: Their clubs burned with genuine holy energy as they prowled the audience, calling out reassurances while channeling divine magic through their improvised weapons.
      • Action: The twins struck at Adaranth with real force, testing both their limits and her supernatural resilience; she endured the blows effortlessly, laughing and growling in character.
      • Action: The chase drove the trio back to the stage in a burst of holy fire and laughter, ending with Adaranth collapsing theatrically as the “vanquished demon.”
      • Action: Several costume pieces failed during the chaotic scene, but the audience responded with roaring approval at the unplanned intensity.
  • Act VII – The Finale and Encore
    • Scene: Fazzo and Nissa closed the performance with their signature illusion.
      • Action: Together they conjured the infamous “dragon made entirely of boobies,” soaring magically above the crowd.
      • Action: As the crowd roared, Draphi joined in for an encore — another risqué song from her mortal past, accompanied by the glowing illusion.
      • Action: The audience erupted, tossing coins onto the stage until it glittered in gold.
