Season 3, Session 14 - The Fall of Chegdrok

Date Played: 2024-10-13 • In-Game Date: 27 Jazur, 3520 NY

Chegdrok returns to settle scores, choosing his moment well. The tyrant’s wrath shakes the Crown’s Heirloom—and costs the heroes dearly before the tide turns once more.

Recap Summary

With the twins away on church business and Zedhryx Trevelle absent—presumed asleep or recovering from prior exertions—the Crown’s Heirloom Inn was vulnerable. Chegdrok the Conqueror seized the opportunity, leading a brutal assault with two ancient Tomb Tapper golems wielding adamantine mauls. His arrival and his demand for Adaranth Monroe would ignite one of Everbrook’s fiercest street battles yet.

Acts, Scenes, and Moments

  • Act I – The Challenge of Chegdrok
    • Scene: Morning confrontation at the Crown’s Heirloom.
    • Action: With the Moon Magi in court and Zedhryx, Fazzo, and Nissa missing, Chegdrok attacked the inn accompanied by two towering Tomb Tapper constructs armed with adamantine mauls.
    • Action: Shouting, “Bring me the red strumpet!”, the conqueror demanded Adaranth Monroe specifically, his voice echoing through the streets.
    • Action: True to form, Adaranth Monroe charged to meet him, wielding her circus mallet and readying one of her signature knockback attacks—but she took a moment too long.
  • Act II – The Fall of Monroe
    • Scene: The duel turns fatal.
    • Action: With a flash from his enchanted eye and the swing of his massive green crystal greatclub, Chegdrok struck a decisive blow, crushing Monroe's skull before she could act. She fell instantly, dead on the cobblestones.
    • Action: The assault threw the defenders into chaos as Rhivius Onyucleese, Aroh, Orilia, and her first mate Pete Steal rushed to defend the inn.
  • Act III – Turning the Tide
    • Scene: Desperate battle in the street.
    • Action: Chegdrok’s timing was cruelly precise—he struck when the party was at its weakest. His Tomb Tapper allies hammered the front of the inn, their mauls splintering the outer wall and shaking the foundations.
    • Action: As the situation grew dire, Rhivius’s newly attuned lunar armor and starmetal sword turned the tide. His righteous strikes cut through Chegdrok’s defenses, felling the tyrant in a brilliant clash of steel and grit.
    • Action: Protected by his armor’s deathward enchantment, Rhivius resisted the deadly skull-crushing magic bound within Chegdrok’s club, saving himself and ensuring victory.
    • Action: With their master fallen, the Tomb Tappers continued to batter the inn until the defenders brought them down in a hail of explosions and steel.
  • Act IV – Music and Resurrection
    • Scene: The aftermath within the ruined inn.
    • Action: Throughout the chaos, Orilia played her violin, a world-class performance that seemed to bolster the morale of the party. When her music finally ceased, Draphi Oturo emerged from her lair, drawn by the melody rather than the battle itself.
    • Action: Inspecting the aftermath with detached curiosity, Draphi discovered two small invisible worms taking samples of Monroe’s blood and trying to remove the spade-end of her tail. Draphi purged their invisibility, and the worms flew away.
    • Action: Fazzo and Nissa returned and Fazzo resurrected Monroe, restoring her to life. She sulked into the Inn, complaining about her head hurting.
  • Act V – The Moon Magi Return
    • Scene: Aftermath and illusion.
    • Action: Shortly after Monroe’s revival, FaLaSu and ZaRaSu returned from court, looking exhausted and low on mana.
    • Action: To lighten the mood, ZaRaSu had the party pose Chegdrok’s giant corpse in a funny position before turning him to stone, while both sisters cast grand illusions to disguise the inn’s battle damage from onlookers.
  • Act VI – The Investigator Arrives
    • Scene: The mystery of the Tomb Tappers.
    • Action: Arcanist-detective Gexon arrived to assess the scene, examining the fallen constructs and the massive mauls left behind.
    • Action: He explained that Tomb Tappers forge their own adamantine mauls—magic weapons only they can use—and that each takes a year to craft anew if destroyed or stolen. These mauls, however, are not created by them.
    • Action: Gexon deduced that Chegdrok must have bribed them with these weapons, though why they fought to the death remained unclear.
    • Action: With a nod and a knowing grin, Gexon warned that “things are about to get interesting in Lower Everbrook,” before heading back to his offices in Upper Everbrook. He invited the heroes to visit any time, departing with a jaunty whistle of an old Netherese tune.
  • Act VII – The Scouting of Chegdrok's Home
    • Scene: Nissa’s reconnaissance mission.
    • Action: Later that day, Nissa decided to investigate Chegdrok the Conqueror’s former stronghold, hoping to uncover clues or unclaimed treasures left behind after his defeat.
    • Action: Taking to the skies under greater invisibility, the pixie scout glided over the outer walls of the fortress, observing its layout and the movements within.
    • Action: To her surprise, the keep was already teeming with activity—shady-looking Arcanists had arrived within an hour of Chegdrok’s fall. Word clearly traveled fast in Everbrook.
    • Action: With no chance of entering undetected amid the sudden bustle, Nissa circled once more for a final look before quietly retreating to report her findings to the group.
