Black Arrow Class Multirole Stealth Craft
The Black Arrow Class is an experimental combat-focused starship built by the UDSA Shipyards exclusively for the Exploration and Defense Fleet, primarily intended for the Mobile Division. Relatively few details of the program are known compared to other common UDSA-built ships due to its nature as a partially-classified cutting-edge military vessel.
Propulsion
The c+ Drive system of the Black Arrow features retractable Chernyak planes, which can be folded away with the active surface towards the body of the ship to allow better cooling of the back side in concert with the stealth system. Despite this added complexity, it can reach high peak speeds of up to c+v20. The sublight propulsion system features a powerful fusion drive to allow high velocity passes in and out of sensor detection areas, along with a shutter system to contain its heat signature when in stealth mode.
Weapons & Armament
The armament of the Black Arrow is kept secret, however some unverified sources claim it consists primarily of non-reusable Hyperkinetic Impactor Missiles to further avoid detection.
Sensors
As it is designed for covert reconnaissance among other roles, the Black Arrow features an advanced sensor suite, specialized on wide-spectrum passive visual and radio observation.
Additional & auxiliary systems
The most unique aspect of the Black Arrow is its directional emission stealth system (DES) which cools down a significant part of the ship's hull to near cosmic background levels and redistributes all of the waste heat produced by the ship into a directional radiator with limited emission angle adjustment capabilities. This allows the ship to become nearly undetectable to most passive long-range sensor systems, provided the ship is oriented with the cold side towards the observer.
Continued use of this system requires the ship to be in a low power mode, as the amount of power which can be safely emitted through the directional is limited, however short bursts of higher power usage (such as running the sensor suite at maximum acquisition rate at closest approach to a reconnaissance target) can be absorbed.
The typical mission profile when using DES is expected to involve several weeks of coasting at low power, so the Black Arrow also includes a relatively large amount of food and water storage in order to reduce the amount of power consumed by recycling systems.
