Autotranslator
To bridge the gap between vastly different languages which are often hard to pronounce for other species, automatic translation devices are widespread and often integrated with other personal electronic devices.
Autotranslators come in various forms and are generally easily accessible. Most units are wearable and are capable of good translations of most common languages, but may struggle with less common or more complex languages. More powerful units are capable of translating most or all known languages, but are not as portable.
Autotranslators are so ubiquitous that often public places keep additional autotranslators on hand for visitors who are not carrying one or those whose autotranslator has run out of power.
Utility
Autotranslators are indispensible for interstellar communication. Oftentimes languages are hard or even impossible to speak for other species (the most infamous example being the Orr Language) which would make cross-species impossible. Some autotranslators offer different levels of direct translation, a setting which is intended to aid with smoothing over cultural differences, but does not always succeed at its goal.
