The Big Green

You want to be a farmer, sonny? Head on up to the cloning labs and lets get your hands dirty, then!
— Old Man Jedediah, Frugal Farming Tech mascot
The Big Green (with an official name of Techno-Agricultural Complex 7A) is a cluster of immense skyscraper and towering complexes located in Sector 7, dedicated to the complicated operation of growing crop. Here, vast fields of vegetables and grains are cultivated with roots floating free in vats of nutrients and fertilizer. They are tended to by robots under UV lights, powered by glittering arrays of solar panels and electroconductive windows. Laboratories nearby carry out genetic experimentation to produce the next big hit.   The complex is a shared space between 157 different corporation and subsidaries. It is the largest complex in the city and produces around 20% of all the raw material for food in the Megacorpolis.

Exploring the Big Green

From the gleaming peaks that touch the clouds to the fecund marshlands around their base where all the failed experiments slough off to, there is much to see and find in the Big Green. Terms and conditions apply. Trespassers will be sued.

The Meatery

Almost all meat in the Megacorpolis is cultivated in vats of nutrient fluids rather than carved from some poor, terrified animal. The Meatery is one such industrial-lab, where giant slabs of meat are dredged from swimming pool-sized ponds of nutrient-broth to be harvested.   The Meatery also has a specialized section for more discerning (i.e more money than sense) citizens. These laboratory kitchens clone and cook exotic meats, with anything from elephant, panda or human on the menu.

The Swamp

The central column of the complex jettisons its genetic waste into a large gathering tank at the base of the tower. In a completely unexpected turn of events, such an amalgamation of chemicals, half-dead genetic experiments and random plant-matter have gained a life of its own.   Known as the Swamp, the tank has long since overflown onto the streets and covered about a block of streets. It is a place of weird and bizarre creatures, and there are plans to maybe turn it into some sort of themepark. Going here requires signing a waiver.

Scrub-Grub Farm

The Scrub-Grub corporation is a typical bottom feeder of a company. They reside in the lower floors of the low-rent complex and specialize in what they call "Affordable Dining". Here, corners are cut to sharp degree.   But those tanks doesn't really have to be checked for genetic contamination every single day. And so what if that beef taste a little like maize or has sprouted tumors? Scrub-Grub, when nothing else seems affordable.

Future Farming   The world's oldest occupation is no longer spent out in the field, under the sky and with fingers deep into the soil - such inefficiency is no longer reasonable. Nearly all food that is grown (and more importantly - sold!) in the Mega-City come from an interior farm such as in the Big Green.   There are many advantages to it. It requires far less water and energy than traditional farming, crops can be stacked vertically and save space, and there are practically no limits to whatever kind of engineering the Megacorps want to do to the crops.   Much of the lands outside of the city have been reclaimed by nature. But there's no wi-fi out there, anyway.

Farmers Inc.

Eating is big business, because no one likes to starve. At the close of the 20th century, less than 2% of the population in industrial countries. Today, most farming and ranching is done by robots. They're much better at the job, anyway.   Due to Earth's decreased population, the number has stayed more or less the same but the work has changed. Farmers in the Megacorpolis are scientists, roboticists, production line experts, marketing, advertisement and genetech ideologues.
