Thelasians

The Thelasians are human-sized amphibious Octopi who live on the coastal shelf of the oceans of Materia. Their central bodies are usually about 2 feet in length, with arms ranging from 4-6 feet. When on land they will use 4 of their arms (every other arm) to walk in a quadrupedal fashion while using the other 4 to manipulate objects. However, their bodies are very sensitive to drying out and burning in direct sunlight, so they will usually not spend more than an hour or two out of the water unless they have on significant protective clothing, preferring to go on land simply to scavenge for resources or food not available to them otherwise. Their cities are built on the coastal shelves, creating reeflike structures made of meticulously cultivated coral that rise up from up to half a mile below the surface until they graze the top of the water.
