Myth of The Creation of Materia
While each of the major cultures of Materia has their own version of the creation myth, the version told by the Thelassians is generally believed by decerning scholars to be the closest to the truth.
In the beginning was the void, and the void was Zhuul, and Zhuul refused to give up his dominion to any other being. Nevertheless, there were other worlds in far off places, and while Zhuul was distracted by his attempts to snuff out these distant worlds, the divine essence coalesced spontaneously, and 4 beings were born of the void, Cthonis, or the Stone, Ardea, or the Flame, Tempra, or the Waters, and Ventus, or the Air.
And while they disagreed as to the nature of what there should be, they all agreed that there should be something. As such they merged their essences together and formed the world of Materia. Yet, while they were distracted with this undertaking, more Gods were born, and added their essences to the creation of Materia: Shelas the Protector, Gelu of the Snows, Immon Lord of Monsters, Interitus, the decayed one, Irodracia and Quetzal the dragon twins, Jotunae the ever growing, Mediocyrus the Fey King, Serpor the Serpent, Seyta, Lord of Law, and Venar the Hunter. Each came, and each added to the world a piece of themselves, and each vied for dominance over the others, as is the nature of Gods to do.
Their fighting attracted others, the Demons, who came from the many mad realms of the abyss. But the Gods saw the demons and knew they must put aside their differences to defend their creation. They drove the demons back to the Abyss and Shelas said to the others, I will stand watch at the gate. I shall be Lord of the Demons, and force them to bow to me and away from our great creation.
