Transsonic Blade
Overview
A precision-forged longsword whose edge is lined with micro-resonance emitters. On impact, the blade samples the target’s material response and retunes its vibration to the frequency most likely to slip past defenses on the next strike.
Description
- Form: Straight, single- or double-edged longsword; segmented fuller housing the resonators; grip with insulated wiring; power connector at the pommel.
- Indicators: Inset harmonics strip (cool-blue when armed, white when live).
- Sound: A faint, rising hum that pitch-shifts between blows.
Properties (rules)
- Weapon type: Longsword (one-handed or versatile).
- Unpowered Damage: 1d8 slashing.
- Powered Mode (tethered/pack):
Adds +1d6 lightning damage on hit.
Adaptive Resonance: Each time you hit the same target, you gain +1 to attack rolls against that target on subsequent attacks (max +5). The bonus is tracked per target. The bonus resets if you attack a different target or the blade is disconnected/unpowered. - Connect / Disconnect: Requires 30 seconds (~5 rounds) of uninterrupted work to attach or remove the power cable/pack.
- Failure mode: If the connection is severed, the blade continues to function as unpowered.
Use & Tactics
- Duel breaker: Excel at focus-firing tough single targets; the bonus stacks quickly to breach high AC/DR.
- Team finisher: Let allies strip defenses; you capitalize as your to-hit climbs.
- Counter-swap: If forced to switch targets, expect to rebuild stacks—plan your positioning.
