The Twin Fangs of Midnight

Weapon (paired daggers — Venin & Nox), very rare, requires attunement by an assassin of the Sisterhood or one chosen by Etzli

Appearance

Forged in venom and shadow, the Twin Fangs of Midnight are sacred relics of the Sisterhood of Dajjashi, consecrated through venom-forging and necrotic rites whispered by the Beekeeper’s attendants.

Venin (“Heartbite”): A serpent-green blade with etched scales that ripple faintly in the light. Its serpent-hide hilt is cold, capped with a jade pommel that glows when venom takes hold. Its edge appears forever wet, as if freshly dipped in poison.

Nox (“Silent Death”): A matte-black blade that drinks in light. Violet serpent runes flicker faintly when blood is spilled. Its shadow-serpent grip is warm, capped with an amethyst pommel that pulses faintly, like the last beats of a dying heart.

When unsheathed together, they exhale emerald mist and violet shadow, curling like entwined serpents in a death-dance.

Properties

  • +2 Daggers. Each grants +2 to attack and damage rolls.
  • Bonded Pair. When both are wielded, the wielder has advantage on the first attack roll they make each combat round.
  • Silent Fang. A creature slain with the Fangs makes no sound; its death is precise, as though life itself was excised.

Venin (Heartbite)

  • On hit, target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw.
  • Failure:

Takes 3d6 poison damage. Becomes poisoned until the end of the wielder’s next turn.

One hour later, the venom begins binding the heart: the target’s maximum HP is reduced by 1d6 every hour until the venom is cleansed.

Success: Target takes half poison damage, no further effects.

  • Curing Venin:

The poison’s spread can be halted with lesser restoration, protection from poison, or equivalent.

Any lost maximum HP can only be restored with greater restoration, heal, wish, or higher magic.

Nox (Silent Death)

  • On hit, target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw.

Failure:

Takes 3d6 psychic damage.

Target is Stunned until the start of the wielder’s next turn, their mind trapped in a death-vision.

  • Success: Target takes half psychic damage, no paralysis.

Lingering Effect: If the target failed the initial save, they must repeat it every hour. On each failed repeat save, they suffer 1d4 psychic damage as whispers of death gnaw at their mind. This effect lasts until ended by lesser restoration, calm emotions, or equivalent magic.

Twin Fang Effect (Combined Strike)

If both Venin and Nox strike the same creature in one turn:

Target must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw.

Failure: Target takes 3d6 poison + 3d6 psychic damage, and is Paralysed until the end of their next turn.

Success: Target takes half this damage, no stun.

Lore

The Twin Fangs of Midnight are rarely seen beyond Etzli’s Sisterhood. Forged in shadowed rites, they are not mere weapons but symbols of faith and silence. To be given them is to be named as one of Etzli’s trusted shadows — a bond as binding as blood.

When the Beekeeper commanded Etzli to purge the betrayer sage’s domains, Trosera Duskraith fought at her side alongside Xochitl, Etzli’s favored assassin. For her silence and precision in striking down the sage’s commanders, Etzli placed the Twin Fangs of Midnight into Trosera’s hands.

Etzli’s words:

“Few beyond my sisters will ever bear both venom and silence. You struck as one of us, Trosera. These blades are yours — not as tools, but as witness.”
