Snake Eyes

1st-level necromancy (luck)
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You curse a creature you can see within range; for a heartbeat, spectral dice replace its pupils. Until the start of your next turn, the creature subtracts 1d4 from all attack rolls. Then roll a d8 on the Gambit table.

Gambit (d8)
1 — Flip: The penalty applies to you instead until the start of your next turn; the target is unaffected this round.
2 — Fizzle: The spell ends immediately with no effect.
3–6 — Straight: Base effect only.
7 — Bad Beat: The target also takes 1d8 necrotic damage and its speed is halved until the start of your next turn; also apply result 8.
8 — Cross-Eyes: The target also has disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) and sight-based Intelligence (Investigation) checks until the start of your next turn.

Sustaining the jinx. While you maintain concentration, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to extend the curse for another round (until the start of your next turn). When you do, you may choose a new target within range and roll the Gambit again. The spell ends if you don’t take this bonus action or if concentration is broken.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a slot of 2nd level or higher, choose one of the following per slot level above 1st (you may choose the same option multiple times for this casting; all targets share the same Gambit roll each round):
Worsen the odds: Increase the penalty die one step (d4→d6→d8→d10→d12).
Spread the jinx: Affect one additional creature within range.
Meaner misfortune: Increase the necrotic damage on result 7 by +1d8.
