Mantle of the White Lion
Artifact of the Shen Family
Overview
The Mantle of the White Lion is one of the greatest heirlooms of the The Shen Family. A snow-white cloak fastened by a sculpted lion-head pauldron, it embodies the spirit of their awakened ancestor. To wear it is to carry the weight of the family’s origin—a predator’s legacy given form.
Origin
The Shen Family traces its bloodline to a mythical white lion who awakened to higher thought, walked among mortals in human guise, and eventually returned to the snowy wastes. Before his passing, he is said to have requested that his body and remnant be used to benefit his descendants. From his hide, the Mantle was crafted. From his essence, the tradition was born: core Shen heirs bind only remnants of their own bloodline, strengthening the ties of kinship and spirit.
The Mantle has since become the most visible symbol of the Shen name, carried only by those who prove themselves worthy.
Properties
Predator’s Aura: The wearer gains proficiency in Intimidation. If already proficient, they instead gain expertise.
Pack Tactics: While wearing the mantle, the wearer gains the Pack Tactics ability (advantage on attack rolls if at least one ally is within 5 feet of the target and not incapacitated).
Pack Leader’s Command (Upgraded): The mantle’s power can awaken further, extending Pack Tactics to allies within 15 feet of the wearer.
Recognized as Predator: Any creature with an instinctive understanding of predator–prey dynamics perceives the wearer as a predator, responding with fear, caution, or rivalry. Sentient animals recognize the aura but can choose how to act. Ordinary humanoids remain unaware.
Symbol of the Shen: The mantle is instantly recognized as a Shen heirloom in regions where the family’s name carries weight. It projects a subtle aura of command, enhancing the bearer’s presence.
Unrevealed Potential: No further properties are known, though whispers suggest its full strength has yet to awaken.
Cultural Significance
The mantle is not only a tool of battle but a banner of lineage. To wear it is to embody the predator’s role in the cycle of life and the unyielding spirit of the Shen. It is displayed only in battle, ceremony, or dire need, when the family’s authority and legacy must be undeniable.
