Agent Fabien

Written by Jacob Sullivan   Edited by Zach Batson

The Liberation Movement in France was extremely active in instilling Communist sentiment long before their rise to power in parliament. During the turmoil leading up to the New Revolution of 1928, the French Communist Party united with various other leftist and moderate political organizations to form the Popular Front in France. Unwilling to compromise with less radical leftists, the Liberation Party formed as an offshoot of the French Communist Party, where they publicly opposed the so-called “collaborationism” of the Popular Front movement and public support for Leon Blum. Although the Liberation Party itself remained nothing more than a minor political party within a party, a new unofficial organization formed known as the Falcem Populi.

This new organization worked in an unofficial capacity as the strong arm of the party, committing a variety of assaults, bombings, assassinations, and other illegal activities in preparation for a new Communist awakening across the globe. Such violent activities garnered a grim reputation for the Falcem Populi in the eyes of the public, causing the Liberation Party to tacitly distance themselves from the organization, while privately funding their activities through the embezzlement of campaign funds. After Radicalism in France reached a boiling point in 1938, a result of the assassination of Leon Blum and the paranoia of L’Aiglon conspiracy, public opinion of the Falcem Populi shifted from viewing them as violent terrorists to heroic freedom fighters. With the formation of the Commissariat and Office of Internal Security Affairs, former members of the Falcem Populi were recruited into various secret service and intelligence offices under the new government. Many of these former members were given the title of “Agent”, along with a code name and various secret assignments in service to the New French Republic.

One such operative was Agent Fabien, a former member of the Falcem Populi who had performed a number of operations prior to the Grand Revolution of 1938. Agent Fabien spent the early part of his career establishing Communist sympathies in the Holy Roman Empire, where he created a number of sleeper cells which would later carry out various partisan activities in the early stages of the Great War. Agent Fabien was most notable for his role in the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Pétain, where he posed as a young private named Pierre Georges. This failed assassination attempt led to Agent Fabien's capture where he was sentenced to death, only later to be exonerated after the Revolution. “Pierre Georges” was awarded a Revolutionary Cross for his attack on the former Prime Minister, and was seen by many as a symbol of the Revolution. With too many eyes on his old disguise as Agent Fabien retired his persona and reported to the Commissariat for his next assignment.

Since the start of the Great War, Agent Fabien has made a name for himself as an efficient infiltrator and saboteur. His experience as a former Falcem Populi member and his many connections to Communist groups across Europe has made him a major thorn in the side of the Empire and a priority target for their military. His death has been confirmed over a dozen times by the Holy Roman Empire since the start of the war, but he has somehow survived each time to create havoc again.
