Keyed Froe
A keyed froe is a uniquely Old Voxelian variant of the woodworker's froe.
A typical froe is a tool consisting of a short handle and a straight blade projecting perpendicular to it, the edge facing away from where the user holds the handle. A mallet is usually used to hammer the blade down through the grain of a piece of wood, then the handle is worked back and forth to leverage the resulting chunks of wood apart along the cleft created by the blade. The blade may or may not be secured to the handle by a wedge, in the manner of a hammer or axe head.
The feature that distinguishes a keyed froe from the forms more common throughout the Manifold Sky is its removeable metal securing wedge, or 'key.' This key features a pull ring that extends beyond the end of the handle and ratchet-like compound wedge surface. The user can easily disassemble the keyed froe by pushing back on the blade while pulling the ring, allowing the tool to be compactly stowed in its disassembled state. A keyed froe's blade also has a handle hole drifted so that the blade can be oriented to face towards or away from the handle, meaning the tool can also be used as a sort of sickle or drawknife as needed by the user.
Significance
The reversible blade feature makes the keyed froe the favored weapon of The Fraternal Guild of Woodworkers and Woodcutters members who, in addition to having a cultural connection to the implement by way of their history as a labor guild, sometimes have need of a killing implement that won't draw attention when stowed among other common woodworking tools. By extension, the keyed froe arrayed in a certain way is a common motif in Voxelian architecture that has roots in that organzation - an element of the secretive Keysign.
The fact that the handle can be swapped out means that, aside from use as an assassination weapon by Froe & Key, the blade and key of a keyed froe can sometimes be employed in more diverse contexts. For example, securing the blade at the end of a long haft makes it a good weapon for holding opponents at a distance; there are few Djet Kazh techniqes using a keyed froe blade in this manner. Oversized variants have sometimes been used by Voxelian auto-armor operators as breaching tools, path-cutting tools, or, in military contexts, as improvised weapons in the more woodsy theatres of the War of Reunification. The key itself is a hardened compound wedge that might find use as tool to block doors and hatches or, in conjunction with a mallet, to pry apart joined objects.

Rarity
Keyed froes are moderately common among traditional Voxelian woodworkers, but their role is increasingly supplanted by modern woodcutting tools like powered saws.
Raw materials & Components
A keyed froe is typically constructed of forged iron and hardwood. The mallet used to drive it into the workpiece is usually constructed of some variety of inexpensive wood, as continuous hammering will inevitably destroy the striking surface and a hard material will damage the blade, but modern users sometimes avail themselves to dense rubber or polymer mallets.
Tools
A keyed froe is only marginally more difficult to make than a regular froe and can typically be made by any blacksmith familiar with the pattern.
