Divining of Seasons
The Divination of Seasons is a ritual practice within the Church of the Unexpected which leverages the Church's archives to produce an agricultural almanac for use in the year ahead.
Participants
Every year, Servants of Ironies from the cults of Cosmeon, Lyvianne and Selevati with specialized training related to agriculture and meteorology work together to interpolate climate data to make predictions about the following year. A booklet containing their findings is distributed among the faithful around the second week of Seldun. The cover of this booklet is decorated with a piece of pastoral artwork created anew for each year. Those in the know recognize that the goddess depicted therein represents the overall predictions for harvest quality, with Cosmeon indicating hardship, Selevati indicating plenty, and Lyvianne indicating that results will depend more on the farmer than the weather. As a practice tied to the Lyviannite tradition, Vyozha divination plays a role where observations are inconclusive, but, as a practice also tied to Cosmeon, efforts are made to provide the best possible information to the faithful to aid in preparation for the coming year.
Observance
As the deserts in proximity the Eastern Tesseract are more unforgiving than other environments when it comes to large-scale agriculture, the Divining of Seasons is most closely observed by the Coalition states, particularly in the Free Faces League and Craterhold. For their part, the Commonwealth of C typically relies on dieseltech computer modeling for their preparations, and Voxelia's privileged position in Medial A makes them less reliant on careful management of resources like water and favorable weather for sufficient crop yields.
