Ebusians

Ebusians are a race of single-celled amoeboid organisms that are gigantic compared to most others, being about 10 inches in radius if held in a perfect sphere (which they almost never do) and weighing around 150 pounds. Ebusians have many features one would expect of a eukaryote, such as a nucleus (about the size of a tennis ball) and a number of organelles. They also have several features one would not expect, such as integrated circuit lines that bend and flex effortlessly to match whatever shape they take. These 'gelware' circuits are one of the signs that Ebusians are clearly the product of uplifting, along with extensive software libraries designed to help them develop and use technology. Curiously, the Ebusian ability to think does not bear any clear sign of having been implanted, although their ability to remember things that they have thought does bear such signs. While Ebusians have been granted a lot of knowledge about how to do things, they have been given almost nothing in the avenue of why to do things, with the sole message from their benefactors having been;

"Get along and have fun :)"

There are numerous schools of thought amongst the Ebusians as to why the sentence had a smiley but no punctuation.

One of the results of this, however, is that Ebusians have sought out species that are capable of smiling, and further favor species that have a tendency to smile frequently over those that don't. Ebusians are eusocial by nature; none of their coding pertains to this (other than a few pointers for socializing with non-amoeboids), it's just how they are. Between this and the knowledge given to them, it took them about two decades to reach space travel after their uplifting, after which they've been looking for new friends and old acquaintances ever since.

Alignment: Ebusians tend to be aligned Neutral Good, although most will have pronounced lawful or chaotic tendencies.

Religion: Ebusians do not have a formal religion as such, but do have a number of related philosophies, called "Seeking Ways", that all focus on exploration and meeting people. The ultimate goal of these Ways is almost always to find the people who uplifted the Ebusians. Occasionally an Ebusian will adopt a religion from another species, but this is rare.

Ebusian names are unpronouncable alphanumeric strings of, at minimum, 150 characters. Ebusians that plan to mingle with other species will adopt a name from some other species, like "Arwen Iandoli", "Richard Pratchett" or "Mercedes Romero".

Ebusian, unaugmented:
Size: Small
Type: Ooze. Ebusians miss out on many of the benefits of Oozes since they are subject to critical hits and need to sleep, but on the upside they can see and think and use weapons.
Immunities: Ebusians are immune to paralysis and most poisons.
Speed: Swim 180 feet, 0 foot land speed. Ebusians are formless water creatures and cannot usefully move themselves on dry land. However, their innate mastery of their own form allows them to propel themselves at astonishing speeds underwater.
"Running": An unaugmented Ebusian out of water can drag itself across ground at 5 feet per round as a full-round action. It can do this for a number of rounds equal to its constitution modifier, after which it invokes Forced March rules to avoid exhaustion.
Senses: Normal, plus All-Around Vision (see next entry).
All-Around Vision (EX): The entire cell membrane of an Ebusian is photoreceptive, despite being translucent, and Ebusians' distributed neural network allows them to process visual and spatial information with great ease. Enemies gain no benefit from flanking an Ebusian.
Plug-And-Play (EX): As far back as they can remember, Ebusians have had 'software' that allowed them to easily interface with technology. Cybernetics 'implanted' into an Ebusian work immediately, and there is no time required for the Ebusian to use the basic functioning of the device itself, although knowing what they can do with it might take a bit of experimentation - in particular, it usually takes a few hours to get used to the nuances of walking. Among other benefits, this gives a +2 bonus to all Computer checks.
Nucleus (EX): An Ebusian thinks with their entire body, but their knowledge and memories are stored in their nucleus. The nucleus is a metal globe about the size of a tennis ball, and as long as it is intact, the Ebusian knows who they are. If an Ebusian is destroyed but their nucleus is intact, other Ebusians can donate cellular material to build a new body for the nucleus, which will commandeer the cellular material to reform the destroyed Ebusian.
Backup (EX): Every Ebusian with access to data recording technology keeps a backup of their memories that they keep somewhere safe outside of their body. If an Ebusian's nucleus is destroyed, they can be presented this backup to restore their memories and sense of self.
Integrated Equipment (EX): Many objects work just fine for an Ebusian if they just hold it inside them. Ebusians can directly interface with computers, but sometimes they'll have a keyboard inside them that they mash with their whole body because they think it's funny (and they're right). An Ebusian can normally hold three items safely inside them, and for some reason electronics vulnerable to water function just fine as long as they're fully inside the Ebusian's body.
Tron Lines (EX): The circuits inside an Ebusian glow faintly, shedding neon light in a 5 foot radius and giving a -5 penalty to stealth checks in darkness.
Stat Adjustments, General: +2 Constitution and Charisma.
Stat Adjustments, In Water: +6 dex
Stat Adjustments, Out of Water: Strength and Dexterity are both set to 2.

Ebusian, Humanoid Armature:
Size: Medium. A humanoid armature will typically be a human-shaped glass case the size and shape of a human, elf or dwarf, with the ebusian filling either the entire interior volume or just part of it, as they prefer.
Speed: 30 feet, swim speed limited to 30 feet.
Stat Adjustments: None, aside from the general adjustments above. An Ebusian in a humanoid armature has roughly the same basic functionality as a human body.
Functioning Fashion: An Ebusian has only one interior object slot, but on the upside, they can wear clothing, armor, and magic items just like a humanoid does.
A normal humanoid armature has Hardness 2 and a base AC of 12.

Ebusian, Floater:
Size: Small. A container fit for an Ebusian would be roughly 1 foot by 1 foot by 2 feet. While a few Ebusians will go in for this sort of 'cubicle', most will adopt sleeker, usually rounder forms.
Speed: Fly 30 feet, perfect maneuverability. No swim speed; if the floatation platform the Ebusian uses is water-safe at all, it simply moves at its own speed on or under water.
Stat Adjustments: -4 Strength and Dexterity. Most floater disks have small grabber hands for manipulating objects, but these are not as robust as dedicated limbs that most species have. They otherwise have the same basic stat adjustments covered under General, above.
Containerized: Ebusians in a floating armature can store more objects in their interior due to not needing to hold onto them with their own substance. Equipment slots increased to 6.
A normal floater armature has Hardness 4 and a base AC of 13.

Ebusians have 4 build points to spend on 'cybernetics', which herein amounts to modifications to themselves or their chassis. They can spend BP they gain from levels to buy more of these later.
Common Ebusian modifications include:
1BP: Co-Processor: +1 to all INT-based skill rolls, 1/day reroll on an INT-based roll or check.
1BP: Improved Movement Ability: a humanoid armature gains +2 STR and DEX. A Floater gains +15 feet fly speed.
1BP: Big Strong Blob: An Ebusian in a humanoid armature can take this to gain a further +2 to strength and the Powerful Build trait. Requires Improved Movement Ability.
1BP: Improved manipulators: In addition to negating the strength and dexterity penalty for floaters, these added manipulators, improved in both number and quantity, give any type of Ebusian a +2 bonus on any three skills that involve manipulating objects in the world, set at purchase. This can be purchased multiple times.
1BP: Reinforced Casing: Using transparent metal instead of plastic, the Ebusian's casing gains Hardness 10 and a base AC of 16. Taking this modification a second time results in Hardness 15 and an AC of 18, but negates All-Around Vision.
1BP: Environmentally Sealed Casing: This casing is sealed against airborne hazards and a variety of other NBC problems, at the cost of feeling cramped and uncomfortable.
1BP: LCD Casing: This modification applies an LCD finish to the entire casing, allowing the Ebusian to display images, text, and emojis all over their body. This generally gives them a +2 on checks to interact with others (usually Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, or Profession), where appropriate. Tone-deaf use of imagery can cause a penalty instead, though.
1BP: Incognito Casing: Some Ebusians get themselves a casing with a soft, flexible humanoid exterior that can actually pass for a humanoid at casual inspection (+15 on the Disguise roll). Ebusians who do this are usually regarded as weirdos by their fellows, but it helps with any job where you would want to remain inconspicuous.
