Jamurangi

The Jamurangi are an ancient but relatively rare race on Mangal. One of the earliest native races to developed on the plane, the jamurangi are the humanoid fruit of large networks of fungus living throughout the Root Wilds.  Their lives are relatively short, but they are driven to learn and explore before re-merging with the mycelium network.

Physiology and Lifecycle

Jamurangi are humanoid fungal creatures and usually stand around 6 feet tall.  Due to their fungal nature, they tend to be deceptively light for their size, often weighing under 50 pounds.  While they do have vital organs of some sort, their biology is radically different from most other races, as their bodies are mostly comprised of fibrous tendrils woven together into a humanoid form rather than muscle and bone.   Because of this jamurangi tend to be able to contort their bodies in ways that would prove fatal for other races.   Jamurangi are not born, they are spawned like mushrooms from fungal colonies.  They typically mature into fully grown jamurangi in 1 to 2 days and come into being with the ability to speak, walk, and a certain level of understanding of the world around them comparable to a young adult of most other races.  They typically live solitary lives of wanders, learning about the world and trying to travel outside of the area of their birth.  After a few decades, they begin to break down, will often seek out a cool damp place to dissolve into spores that will reconnect to the mycelial network that spawned them, adding their experience and memories to the network and strengthening its connections.  If left undisturbed, up to three new Jamurangi may spawn from this area in 3 to 6 months.

Culture and Traditions

Jamurangi see themselves as the living memory of Mangal and often seek lives of travel and discovery.  While they are not actually male or female, those that spend their lives among other races often adopt a gender and mode of dress that allows them to better relate to others.  Many jamurangi will dedicate the majority of their life to a single pursuit, be it a crafting tradition, combat form, or magical discipline, or simply cataloging all the species of insects in a particular area, attempting to master their understanding of their pursuit before returning to the mycelium.   Jamurangi are also able to draw upon their connection to the mycelial network to recall memories from the past.  The change wrought by the Worldfast did significant damage to the network, leaving the jamurangi of today to a burden to reconnect lost portions and reclaim knowledge about the ancient world.

Relations with Other Races

The jamurangi view other races with curiosity, and some even take up the study of the culture and traditions of other races as their life's work.  Jamurangi are exceedingly rare, often existing only in stories and fables to most humans, goblins, lizardfolk, and the like.  In these stories, they are almost universally depicted as sources of wisdom about the ancient past or friendly wanders encountered in the otherwise dangerous wilds.
