Frost Giants

Frost Giants are found in the northmost regions of Malgrave. They were once the rulers of all the Evertwilight until being driven out by the Helldrakes.

Description

Appearance

Frost giants are a middle sized giant, standing around 21 feet tall on average. Their skin comes in varying shades of blue that match their frozen environments. Their hair is typically white or pale blue, often styling their hair with ice holding together strands of hair, or the beards of the men, causing a glint or shimmer in the light or looking like large clear beads woven into them. They are often considered the fairest of the giant races, catching many off guard.

History

Early History

Frost giants came to Malgrave the same way as most other races, through rifts between the planar realms. In their beginning, they ruled over the majority of the Evertwilight through tyrannical force. They had built a home base they called Glasheim. Between hunting the various large creatures and enslaving people from the surrounding regions, they were very comfortable and thriving until a band of mercenaries known as the Helldrakes arrived. They claimed to be serving justice and a righteous cause, attacking under the justification that they were there to free the slaves. The unsuing battle was surprisingly short lived, as the Helldrakes had an alarmingly efficient tactic to quickly dispatch the giant warriors one after the other with little effort. The few reamining giants either surrendered or fled, disappearing into the tundra and north face of the Irongate Mountains. The guise of benevolence quickly dropped, with the Helldrakes claiming Glasheim for themselves and renaming it Frostbane. Those that had surrendered were enslaved and forced to do the bidding of the mercenaries.

Present

Since the fall of the once mighty tribes of frost giants, they have lived as a scattered and broken people. Those that are seen are usually hunted down and killed or enslaved by the rulers of Frostbane. Those that are enslaved are made to toil constantly, with most tasks providing no benefit other than the amusement of the people. They are told if and when they can have children, usually trying to prevent it as much as possible so that their offspring aren't born into slavery.   The free frost giants live in constant fear. They hide from patrols and watch towers, only hunting larger monsters for food. The reason serves two purposes. One is that it will feed the most people, and the other is that it keeps people from seeking reasons to investigate the areas they hide in. Though few, the people are divided. There are those that wish to rise against the people of Frostbane and reclaim their home and pride. The older and more experienced members of the tribes are wary of such ideas, knowing that retaliation would be swift and likely brutal.
