Anti-thieving brooch
A thief in the night
This little item tends to be made out of fake gold. Anti-thieving brooches are often made to look like various beetles with fake gems adorning their shells and eyes. Unless they are in use, anyone can see that they look just like a cheaply made insect-themed statuette. They are about 10 to 15 cm wide and long, while only 5 cm tall. As their name implies, they can also be used as brooches. To do that, two of their legs have a mechanism that lets them be attached to clothes.
The anti-thieving brooch, as its name implies, is a magical item that protects property from thieves, highly valued by merchants and nobility. It does so by altering their perception of the values of other items. Any other thing in the area protected by it will seem to be cheap junk. For each thing affected that way, the brooch will start to look more and more valuable. Focusing one's sight on it only intensifies this effect while also creating a need to own the brooch itself. Unless a thief counteracts the influence of the brooch fairly quickly or has strong enough willpower, they won't be able to resist the need to steal the brooch while leaving everything else, even the loot and the things they brought with them. Once they escape with the brooch, the magical item will come alive, taking on the form of a beetle it is shaped after, and will soon abandon their new "owner", only to return to the building it was stolen from.
When used as brooches, these magical items drastically decrease their area of influence, affecting only the clothes of the one wearing them. This mode was created specifically to protect from the pickpockets, otherwise, it works exactly the same as when the beetle statuette protects the building, just on a scale small enough to not affect the passersby.
A case of a missing beetle
It was the middle of the night when a doorknob of Magical Curiosities moved slightly. The lock wasn't that complicated, and yet, the one who tried to open it had some difficulties. After a few minutes of messing with it, the door finally opened ajar. The intruder reached their hand through the gap and grabbed onto the bell, stuffing it with some material. With that, they could enter without ringing it by accident. It was time to begin work. They were here to grab as many magical items as possible. They looked around one last time to check if there was no one on the street to notice them. Since the coast was clear, they sneaked in. The inside of the shop was dark, but that was quickly alleviated with the use of a dim lantern. As the thief checked during the day, most of the magical items were placed within glass cases that were models of which were usually protected with many spells and enchantments. And so, the better target would be the items that were freely lying on the shelves or hanging on the holders. But as the thief got closer to them, something else drew their attention. Right there, in a freshly opened box on the counter, there was a beetle-shaped statuette. It was made out of pure gold and adorned with many jewels. Despite its dim light, the thief's lantern revealed that it was glimmering with all colors of the rainbow as if even the gold it was made out of was covered with some crystal-like coating. The thief couldn't avert their eyes from it. They were sure it was the most valuable thing in the whole store, and that stupid shopkeeper forgot to hide it somewhere before leaving the shop. Nothing else mattered when compared to this beauty. The thief grabbed the beetle and left the store with it. After all, nothing else in there could come close to the value of their loot.
Dan closed the doors behind the thief and checked the traces they had left behind. Tomorrow, the local police would have another clear-cut case with a simple visit to make. Dan waited for another fifteen minutes until something started knocking on one of his windows. It was a small golden beetle made out of fake gold and covered with many colorful pieces of glass. As Dan opened the window for it, the beetle flew in, and once it went back into its case, it once again turned into a simple statuette.
"Give it back!"
"I don't know what you are talking about, FRIEND."
"I know you stole it. I just don't know how you did it without it returning."
A horned man wearing a Venetian mask and with streaks of gold in his black hair stood in front of Dan, angrily waving his hands. It was Mammon, a Demon, and an owner of one of the most famous brands of accessories for witches, wizards, as well as anyone non-magical. The two of them had known each other for years, often teasing and outsmarting each other, even though their businesses had almost no overlap to guarantee this rivalry. The two of them just liked to do that. And right now, Mammon was completely sure that Dan was the reason for the last loss of his only anti-thieving brooch. And compared to him, right now, Dan was completely calm, with a slight smile on his face. A smile that was just pissing Mammon off.
"Who in the name of all hells steals someone's security system?"
"I don't know, but if you find them, congratulate them in my name."
"Oh, you would want me to congratulate them, you smug bastard," Mammon had enough. He fixed his suit got a little messy thanks to all of his gesturing and he went towards the doors. "You don't know the time of the day! My vengeance will be swift!" He opened the doors wide and then closed them slowly behind him, as he always did. He was a proper Demon of Greed, and destroying any kind of property, not even the one not belonging to him wasn't in his rule book. Dan rolled his eyes and giggled at his antics and then returned to checking his inventory. He'll probably have to wait a little before using the little bug for himself and he'll probably will have to reinforce his shop's security against demons for the next few nights.

Rarity
As the company that made them went bankrupt years ago, the ones that still work are quite rare.
